10 Signs You Have Been A Camp Counselor

Being a camp counselor is one of the most entertaining jobs anyone can have. Here are 10 signs you have been a camp counselor.

1. You have copious amounts of tie-dye shirts

And your hands were also probably permanently dyed for the whole summer.

2. You make a mean friendship bracelet

And you probably have had some great tan lines from wearing them up your whole arm.

3. You have learned not to laugh during uncomfortable situations

During training you are told not to laugh when a camper does something inappropriate, because obviously that will only encourage that behavior. But it's really hard not to laugh when a camper pees on the side of the pool and your co-counselor is going to have to clean it up.

4. "Do you know any repeat after me songs?"

I said a boom chicka boom (I said a boom chicka boom), I said a boom chicka rocka chicka rocka chicka boom (I said a boom chicka rocka chicka rocka chicka boom)

5. Your patience has been tested. A lot.

And sometimes you couldn't hold back your built up anger at that one camper.

6. You have a fan club

All of the little girls want your full attention. They want to braid your hair, make you friendship bracelets, and hold your hand.

7. You have sacrificed your dignity for the enjoyment of the campers

Yes, that's me. And yes, I am a mummy. Getting pied in the face, getting paint thrown at me, and sliding down soapy slip n' slides are among the other ways I sacrificed my dignity.

8. You've mediated countless fights between campers

Once I had to mediate a fight about a hole that was dug in the ground. They were fighting over whose hole it was.

9. You have been asked to clean up ungodly things

One of my 6 year old campers peed all over her clothes and the bathroom floor. To that I say-

10. You know how to deal with a fake crier

Look, I know you're not hurt and that you just want a popsicle.

Friendship. It's defined as the state of being attached to another person by feelings of affection or personal regard, but what really is friendship? Is it that occasional hallway talk with that one person who always manages to cheer you up? Is it that relationship you have with someone where they can be gone for a long period of time, but when they come back, it's like they never left? Is it spending every waking hour with someone, and knowing every detail about their life? Is it the relationship that's filled with fighting, but filled with even more resolution? I've learned that it's all of these things, and every friendship is different. It's a beautifully dysfunctional mess that should always be cherished and never be taken for granted.
