ASU freshman, Amontá Jones, expresses his love and passion for music through rapping and producing his own music. Jones is 19 years old and he was born and raised in Rogers, Arkansas.
Jones has published his first project called "Give It Time" which consists of seven songs: Grind, Motivated, Missing Piece, Focused, Time, Drop and Focused II. His music is found on platforms such as Spotify, SoundCloud, youtube music, iHeart Radio, Shazam, and apple music.
"As I grew up loving music more and more and diving deeper into how artists made songs," Jones said. I eventually decided to give it a shot."
Jones top hit "Grind" has reached 53,120 views on Spotify. This song is about working hard and doing anything to achieve success. According to Jones, this is one of his biggest achievements so far.
According to Jones, he starts writing a song after he experiences some type of emotion such as a relationship, a good time with friends or a breakup. Then he finds a beat he can connect with on youtube and then he starts recording his voice in a computer program called "Logic."
"I try to make all of my songs have some sort of message," Jones said. I feel like if someone is going to take the time to listen to my music, it should be telling them something."
Jones said that all of his songs are based on personal experiences. The length of producing songs varies. He spent the longest on his song, "Missing Piece" which took about two months and the shortest amount of time he spent on a song was two hours.
"It is all about inspiration and flow," Jones said. Sometimes it all comes out at once, and sometimes it's harder and you have to tap into your creativity a little more."
Jones participated in a showcase event called "Coast to Coast" in Scottsdale Arizona back in November and won first place. He won a chance to go to Miami to perform at nationals this August and have the chance to win $55,000.
