For the past 26 years, Chicago has hosted one of the world’s largest music festivals. Lollapalooza. Thousands of people come to Grant Park for music, food, and a great time. Artists ranging from the superstars like Chance The Rapper to rising artists like Whethan perform each year. This year’s lineup features many genres of music and one of the most popular being hip-hop/rap. In my opinion, one of the artists that stands out the most is Aminé. He was recently named one of XXL’s 2017 Freshman.

Many will know Aminé’s name because they’ve heard his triple platinum record “Caroline.” After doing my research on him, I can assure you he is no one hit wonder. He has other standout tracks like “Heebiejeebies” featuring Kehlani and “Wedding Crashers” featuring Offset from Migos. Along with those tracks, he has some great work to show his talent. He just released his full-length debut album, “Good For You.” The project really sets him apart from other artists in the music industry right now. His work can be found on all streaming platforms like Spotify, SoundCloud, Apple Music and it is worth the listen.

Pictured above is the official cover art for Aminé’s new album. In the illustration, the artist can be seen holding a newspaper that is not just any old newspaper. Aminé will be giving away free copies of the newspaper which he has been working on for the past year. He says that is the “most personal thing” he has worked on besides his music. He is even paying out of pocket for the newspapers to be printed so that if fans want one, they can. With this being his debut album, it’s easy to see that Aminé has the creativity to stay relevant for quite some time.

Aminé will perform at the Lollapalooza Pepsi stage at 1:50 on Saturday. That may seem a little early to some festival goers but there’s nothing like the early performances. The crowds are smaller, the show is more intimate, and the experience is completely different from a headliner. Aminé is someone that you do not want to miss because he’ll be putting on an unforgettable performance. You can also catch him at Zane Lowe’s Official Aftershow at Concord. Regardless, if you can see him perform, you won’t regret it.

Along with Aminé, another member of the XXL 2017 Freshman class will be performing at Lollapalooza that you may know. If you’ve used the term “Uber Everywhere” then you know MadeinTYO. His song “Uber Everywhere” caught the ear of people around the world and had some real buzz. Travis Scott hopped on the remix of the song which took it to the next level. He has another huge track under his belt called “Skateboard P.” MadeinTYO decided to drop a remix to this track which has Big Sean on it. Be sure to catch MadeinTYO on Saturday and Big Sean on Sunday at Lollapalooza.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. You dizzily reach for a hoodie, craving its comfort, and rush for a speedy exit, praying you will have time to pick up coffee. Does this sound familiar?

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies. Here is a few signs that you may live in the library, whether you'd like to admit it or not.
