It is amazing how our brain has the ability to interpret our thought and type it out in a phone, computer, or piece of paper. Sometimes, we can't even keep up with our thoughts. When typing a text or homework, we may miss a word or type the same word twice. If that's not enough, how about the new language our brain has learned. No longer will we type or write out “I don't know.” Instead, we may “accidentally type “idk.” When I say new language, I do not mean Spanish, with accents and words that may sound funny. I am talking about the new American language that involved words like “lol, idk, tbh, lmk, or omg.” I can recall a couple times when I would walk around my campus and hearing people say “omg” or “idk.” It has become a very common mistake that we tend to take lightly.
Although I do not speak those words, I do text a lot and never realized how much I say those words until I took a count for this article. Just within a day I say “lol” 35 times. While counting I did catch on to a few more mistakes, such as not knowing when to use “your” or “you're,” saying “haha” because I'm tried of saying “lol,” and using emoji faces as a way to get my point across. Thankfully, I am not the only victim of the emoji curse. Almost everyone I text has at least one of the words previously mentioned, or an emoji. Furthermore, I once caught myself in the act of writing out one of those words on an essay that I needed to turn in for class. Thank you proof reading! I know that if I am making these mistakes, that there may be other people that make the same mistakes, if not more than I do. Lastly, I've come to the realization that the new American language is a curse that we are all falling into. We cannot control it because we are surrounded by these words. On billboards, television, and the devices we hold at the palm of our hands. This curse is hard to fall out of, so our best bet is to minimize the use of these words and try our best to type it out.
