Many Americans sign up as an Independent because of their views of politics; they might not want to side with just one party because of conflicting views or they're really just unsure. Now, many have found a problem in that they cannot vote during the primaries, which is definitely going to be a primary that we read about years from now. To vote during this season, you MUST be considered of a political party. Although as some Independents have discovered, they are a part of a party after all. Many Americans that reside in California have signed up for the American Independent Party with hopes of not being affiliated with anything and did the complete opposite.
You see, the American Independent Party is a far-right minor political party who is opposed to all liberal beliefs. Their stance is against abortion, anti-gay marriage, pro-guns, and have a strong belief that the United States should build a fence that goes all around it so that absolutely no immigrants make it through. This minor party is the fastest growing political party in the United States. Why? Because most of the voters that sign up for this party have no clue what it is.
To test this out, I searched through my Facebook friends and found a couple of people whose political views stated they were part of The American Independent Party. I asked these friends to tell me a bit about the party they have openly supported on their Facebook page to which they replied, "It means that I'm not with one party or the other." These were friends that don't and have never lived in California. Meaning that it can even be confusing when searching through your beliefs on Facebook. Needless to say, most of these friends have changed their mind after explaining to them what they've been accidentally supporting this entire time.
Are Americans educated enough on the voting process? Should there be more education when it comes to these minor political parties? More importantly, should registered independents be allowed to vote in the primaries?
