A Look Back At 'American Idol' During Its Farewell Season

Almost 15 years ago the world was introduced to a new reality television show. "American Idol" over the years has brought millions of people all across the United States and even other countries out to audition for a chance to be a superstar! We have shared laughter, tears, friendship, love and so much more. Idol has given the world a wonderful show to fall in love with.

In June of 2002 America was introduced to a fun and exciting reality competition. This is where we first met the three iconic and original judges. They were Randy Jackson, Paula Abdul, and Simon Cowell. The three were a wonderful balance of love and ruthlessness. Paula comforted the contestants and made them feel welcomed. Simon was the one who told it like it was and didn’t hold back. Randy was a mix of the two, giving us a perfectly balanced panel of judges. Throughout the years, celebrities such as Kara DioGuardi, Steven Tyler, Mariah Carey, Nicki Minaj, Ellen DeGeneres, Keith Urban, Jennifer Lopez, and Harry Connick Jr have judged the competition.

We also can’t forget the guy who has had the pleasure of hosting the show all these years. Ryan Seacrest has stuck with "America Idol" since it was first launched in 2002.

Over the years, immense talent has been discovered. The first winner of "American Idol" was Kelly Clarkson. The amazing Texas-born singer went on to becoming one of the biggest-selling artists and winner of many music awards. She has a Grammy Award, MTV Music Video Award, Billboard Music Award, American Music Award, People's Choice Award, and many other recognitions of her talent.

After Clarkson, the show discovered brilliant talent such as Carrie Underwood, Fantasia Barrino, Ruben Studdard, and Jordin Sparks. Idol has not just created amazing winners, but other contestants that didn’t win the show in the end have succeeded in the entertainment industry. Clay Aiken, Adam Lambert, Katherine McPhee, and Tori Kelly are just some of the few artists to become successful after "American Idol."

Jennifer Hudson was on season three and got eliminated in the top seven. Chris Daugherty was on season five and got eliminated top four. Both have had remarkable careers as entertainers and can thank Idol for helping them make it in the spotlight. These performers are extremely thankful for getting their start on "American Idol"!

This final season has brought many new talents to the Idol stage. Watch this last season as we say goodbye to this beloved show that has brought not just the contestants joy, but the viewers too.

Taylor Swift in orange dress playing a moss-covered piano on stage with bright lights.

A three-and-a-half-hour runtime. Nine Eras. Eleven outfit changes. Three surprise songs. Zero breaks. One unforgettable evening. In the past century, no other performer has put on an electric performance quite like Taylor Swift, surpassing her fans ‘wildest dreams’. It is the reason supporters keep coming back to her shows each year. Days later, I’m still in awe of the spectacle ‘Miss Americana’ puts on every few days in a new city. And, like one of Taylor’s exes, has me smiling as I reminisce about the memories of the night we spent together.
