'American Horror Story: Roanoke': I'm Waiting

When is this season of AHS going to kick it up a notch?

I don’t know about you but I am a huge “American Horror Story” fan. I’m not one of those people who watched it since it aired because being honest horror things really freaked me out. I was super anti-AHS for awhile because I hate all things scary. My younger sister then sat me down and had me watch the third season and I was hooked. I then binged watched seasons one, two, four and then watched the fifth as it was airing.

Anyway the one thing I love about AHS is the way it messes with your head and makes you think one way and then totally go the other. As a viewer it keeps you completely engaged and you want to keep watching. It’s like eating a pint of Ben and Jerry’s ice cream, you can’t stop until it’s all gone.

There was a lot of hype around this season. No one knew where Ryan Murphy was going with it or who any of the typical AHS vets were. There were tons of theories about what the season was about: Charles Manson and Slenderman were the two I saw the most. Then TMZ released those photos of the so-called set and the tree that says Croatoan on it. So Roanoke it was.

Finally the first episode of this season aired confirming what we already knew, this season would be about the lost colony of Roanoke. This season's format is a little unorthodox as far as AHS’s typical format but it was interesting. The set up very similar to those really bad documentary TV shows like “My Hollywood Ghost Story” or “Untold Stories of The E.R.” You know with the really bad acting and unreasonably over dramatic re-telling of weird things that have happened. The episode introduces the shows two main characters, for this season, Shelby and Matt who move from LA to Roanoke after Matt is assaulted in an act of gang violence and they are looking for a "fresh start". Matt and Shelby buy this really old creepy house that is obviously haunted but they love it just the same. As you would guess, weird things start happening to them and even though everyone and their brother is telling them to get the heck out of there they decide to stay (sound familiar? *cough cough* Murder House).

Now I know it’s a little early to be judging the season because we are only two episodes in but I’m just not as hooked as I’ve been in the past. I feel like the first episode was baiting us but the second episode just didn’t reel me in. I waiting for something shocking to happen and capture me in the usual way AHS does. I’m also waiting for Evan Peters, my favourite AHS alum, to make an appearance because I’m curious who he is playing this season and normally we know who he is before the season starts.

Needless to say I’m a little disappointed with this season so far because I was expecting so much more. I will still watch it though because I am a diehard AHS fan but I am hoping for something to happen soon. I must admit I read all of those theory articles and it fills me with enough questions and food for thought to get to the next episode. I read that episode six will be quite a shocker so I guess I have to wait until then I may re-watch some of the old seasons because they are so good.

I think the hardest thing about going away to college is figuring out how to become an adult. Leaving a household where your parents took care of literally everything (thanks, Mom!) and suddenly becoming your own boss is overwhelming. I feel like I'm doing a pretty good job of being a grown-up, but once in awhile I do something that really makes me feel like I'm #adulting. Twenty-somethings know what I'm talking about.

I went to a small high school, like 120-people-in-my-graduating-class small. It definitely had some good and some bad, and if you also went to a small high school, I’m sure you’ll relate to the things that I went through.

1. If something happens, everyone knows about it

Who hooked up with whom at the party? Yeah, heard about that an hour after it happened. You failed a test? Sorry, saw on Twitter last period. Facebook fight or, God forbid, real fight? It was on half the class’ Snapchat story half an hour ago. No matter what you do, someone will know about it.

Chandler Bing

I'm assuming that we've all heard of the hit 90's TV series, Friends, right? Who hasn't? Admittedly, I had pretty low expectations when I first started binge watching the show on Netflix, but I quickly became addicted.

Without a doubt, Chandler Bing is the most relatable character, and there isn't an episode where I don't find myself thinking, Yup, Iam definitely the Chandler of my friend group.

Working with the public can be a job, in and of itself. Some people are just plain rude for no reason. But regardless of how your day is going, always having to be in the best of moods, or at least act like it... right?

1. When a customer wants to return a product, hands you the receipt, where is printed "ALL SALES ARE FINAL" in all caps.

2. Just because you might be having a bad day, and you're in a crappy mood, doesn't make it okay for you to yell at me or be rude to me. I'm a person with feelings, just like you.

3. People refusing to be put on hold when a customer is standing right in front of you. Oh, how I wish I could just hang up on you!
