This is The carnival

A poem dedicated to the sideshow nation we've become.

This is The carnival

Come one, come all!

Welcome to the Cain and Able Carnival

where I am your celebrated celestial host, Ego!

We have so many wondrous attractions for you tonight

I just can't contain it all!

Look! A featherless eagle has taken from its perch

and flies through a burning ring of human rights

to become a turkey dinner for a wolf of Wallstreet.

Encore!

Over Here! We have the reality show president

complaining about fake news and donkeys.

He never admits that he's an ass himself.

But it's okay because glass sharks don't bite, right?

Clearly!

Observe! There are games to be had, kids.

Throw a pigskin to your friend as long as he stands

for an anthem played while his daddy is lying on his back.

Don't worry about whether his daddy loved him,

worry about whether he loves this country or not!

Be a good sport!

Attention! Here we can forget all the troubles of the world!

Isn't this the greatest place on earth?

Even if it isn't, I have news for you:

We're taking this act into space!

Introduce our guns to the galaxy.

Our dear ring leader did say he'd deal

with all of the illegal aliens, didn't he?

E.T. better phone home!

Check it out! We even have an authentic Mexican-style zoo.

Here we have a 12 year-old boy who is both predator and prey.

Pray for his poor unfortunate soul as we send him back

to a land of rapists and drug dealers.

You, sir, in the back. Please put your hand down.

Bidding for his services won't begin for three more years.

Who wouldn't want to run away and join these red, white and blue shenanigans?

I can close my eyes and just get lost in the star-spangled band playing over

the cries of humanity and gunshots.

Aren't you enjoying the show?

Absurdity. That is about all that comes to mind when I look at the American news cycle nowadays. In truth, I've cut this poem down from everything I have seen and read online from major news networks.

Our government has become a living superfluous extravaganza dedicated to making a rich man richer in both terms of attention and power. This is no longer an administration, but a regime. I am tired of being an observer to this mess. It is time that we start speaking out.

This afternoon, President Trump signed an executive order to keep families from being separated at the border in response to the backlash of the conditions that these kids have been placed in. As a people, we can stand for human rights, but we must all speak up and speak out against the violation of said rights. We must shout against the circus as opposed to turning a blind eye or cheering in favor of this mess.

Christmas Tree
History.com

Now that Halloween is over, it's time to focus on the Holiday Season. Don't get me wrong, I think Thanksgiving is great and can't wait for it, but nothing gives me greater joy than watching Freeform's 25 Days of Christmas, lighting peppermint scented candles, decking the halls, and baking gingerbread cookies. So while we approach the greatest time of the year, let's watch the 15 best Christmas movies of all time.

6 Signs You Are An English Major

There are various stereotypes about college students, most of which revolve around the concept of your major. Unfortunately, we often let stereotypes precede our own judgments, and we take what information is immediately available to us rather than forming our own opinions after considerable reflection. If I got a dollar for every time my friends have made a joke about my major I could pay my tuition. One stereotype on campus is the sensitive, overly critical and rigid English major. Here are six telltale signs you are one of them.

27 Things 'The Office' Has Taught Us

"The Office" is a mockumentary based on everyday office life featuring love triangles, silly pranks and everything in between. It can get pretty crazy for just an average day at the office.

When you were little, your parents probably told you television makes your brain rot so you wouldn't watch it for twelve straight hours. However, I feel we can learn some pretty valuable stuff from television shows. "The Office," while a comedy, has some pretty teachable moments thrown in there. You may not know how to react in a situation where a co-worker does something crazy (like put your office supplies in jello) but thanks to "The Office," now you'll have an idea how to behave ifsomething like that should happen.

Here are just a few of the things that religious Office watchers can expect to learn.

Being pre-med is quite a journey. It’s not easy juggling school work, extracurricular activities, volunteering, shadowing, research, and MCAT prep all at the same time. Ever heard of “pain is temporary, but GPA is forever?” Pre-meds don’t just embody that motto; we live and breathe it. Here are 10 symptoms you’re down with the pre-med student syndrome.

High School And College Sucked All Of The Fun Out Of Reading

Books were always about understanding for me, about learning the way someone else sees, about connection.

High School And College Sucked All Of The Fun Out Of Reading

I keep making this joke whenever the idea of books is brought up: "God, I wish I knew how to read." It runs parallel to another stupid phrase, as I watch my friends struggle through their calculus classes late at night in our floor lounge: "I hope this is the year that I learn to count." They're both truly idiotic expressions, but, when I consider the former, I sometimes wonder if there's some truth to it.
