Each election the youngest group of voters seems to be getting more and more progressive in its political beliefs. in 2008 and 2012 young people chose Barack Obama. In 2016 even though it wasn't enough to get him over the finish line, Bernie Sanders had an even larger amount of support from the youngest voting groups. Which brings up the question, are we as a country on pace to becoming more liberal than ever? I think so. I think it's a reaction from the Reagan and Bush policies that really affected us. An example of this would be the education cuts Reagan made. Demographically speaking, when referring to age groups and racial groups, it is obvious that if Republicans ever want to win a Presidential election again they need to reach out to these groups and they need to move closer to the Democrats on quite a few social issues. I currently am President of my local College Democrats chapter. Almost all of the members were and still are massive Sanders fans. Most young people I talk to that are democrats were Bernie supporters. Not only that but young Republicans that I talk to tend to be moderates. There is a political shift taking place. Bernie Sanders was not an anomaly, he was a sign of things to come. Get ready for progressive policy America, it's coming.
