America The Hateful: Why It's Time To Take A Stand

A place that is a joke.

America The Hateful: Why It's Time To Take A Stand

Look outside, do you see the death? Because when I open my door I see the misery that has been caused by a nation that does not love. There is an issue when a police officer can shoot someone more than once and get paid leave. Don’t tell everyone that there was it necessary to shoot Micheal Brown at least six times.

Don’t go on the news and tell citizens that those shots were needed in order to subdue a teenager. A teenager, not a giant, not a wild animal, but a young teenage. A boy. One of the most devastating parts is the fact that there are so many examples of brutality. I don’t even have enough time to list them all off. So many people feel as though they don’t have a fight in the matter of police brutality, because of their skin color. Guess what! Everyone can stand up when there is injustice. At the end of the day this fight is not for a certain skin color, this fight is for anyone. It is for a mother who has children. It is for a father. It is for anyone with a conscious. It is for anyone that cannot stomach a police officer abusing their power by using the name on their badge.

It’s sad when someone who isn’t from a country looks at America and sees a joke. A place that claims to have a law system founded on justice, but allows murderers off without even a warning. A place that allows someone who has no business running for President, to become a Republican nominee. A place that is a joke.

Instead of being a joke lets become a beacon of hope. Reach out to your elected officials and ask for change. When you see someone who is having an issue with the police instead of walking away stay so you can be a witness. Never turn a blind eye to the injustice. If you are privileged use that to your advantage. Don't allow your privilege to get in the way, instead use it to your advantage. Cry out for different training of police officers. Instead of pulling a gun find different ways that will protect both parties. But here is the kicker public officials won't look for those other ways. It takes YOU researching and making a change.

As college students, we are all familiar with the horror show that is course registration week. Whether you are an incoming freshman or selecting classes for your last semester, I am certain that you can relate to how traumatic this can be.

1. When course schedules are released and you have a conflict between two required classes.

Bonus points if it is more than two.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

April Ludgate

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
