America Could Be The Next Roman Empire

Let's not take the saying "When in Rome" too seriously.

There is a saying that those who do not learn history are doomed to repeat it. It goes along the lines of to learn from a mistake, you must make it first. To me, this saying is very powerful and it leads me to wonder why people and nations continue to do what has failed in the past.

One comparison that stands out is the current condition of the United States and the fall of the Roman Empire. Now, Rome was known as one of the strongest nations in its time. The people of Rome could have never imagined what would happen and most Americans today could never imagine this happening to the U.S.

There are too many similarities to ignore the fact that America may be following in the Roman Empire's footsteps.

Before the Roman Empire really began to fall Emperor Constantine decided to split the empire into two. The west was made of the Roman Catholics and those who spoke Latin. The East worshipped under the Eastern Orthodox part of the Christain church and spoke Greek.

His solution was to separate those who had different beliefs and spoke different languages. Sound familiar? Our current President is striking down on immigration laws and has already tried to implement travel bans.

A lot of Americans, some who I have personally spoken with, believe English is superior to Spanish in America. I have also met those who believe their religion is superior to others.

Among the similarities Rome was struggling politically and in relation to their military. This was partly because Rome was being led by people with no political experience. *Cough, cough* Donald Trump.

Rome also was spending way too much money on it's military. All this money being funneled into the military meant less for medical research and technological advancements. Our current President seems to spend most of his time talking about how big our military is and how he wants parades to show it off.

There are even more similarities than this. America has the evidence of what can happen if we continue on the path we are on. It is written in almost every World History book in America. We've learned how a seemly strong nation can fall in a matter of a couple years.

America might be on the path to sudden death. I just wonder, does America still have a chance?

In honor of Mother’s Day, I have been thinking of all the things my mom does for my family and me. Although I couldn’t write nearly all of them, here are a few things that moms do for us.

They find that shirt that’s right in front of you, but just you can’t seem to find.

10 Reasons To Thank Your Best Friend

Take the time to thank that one friend in your life you will never let go of.

Thank You on wooden blocks

1. Thank you for being the one I can always count on to be honest.

A true friend will tell you if the shirt is ugly, or at least ask to borrow it and "accidentally" burn it.

2. Thank you for accepting me for who I am.

A best friend will love you regardless of the stale french fries you left on the floor of your car, or when you had lice in 8th grade and no one wanted to talk to you.

Do as I say, not as I do.

Your eyes widen in horror as you stare at your phone. Beads of sweat begin to saturate your palm as your fingers tremble in fear. The illuminated screen reads, "Missed Call: Mom."

Growing up with strict parents, you learn that a few things go unsaid. Manners are everything. Never talk back. Do as you're told without question. Most importantly, you develop a system and catch on to these quirks that strict parents have so that you can play their game and do what you want.

"Friends" maybe didn’t have everything right or realistic all the time, but they did have enough episodes to create countless reaction GIFs and enough awesomeness to create, well, the legacy they did. Something else that is timeless, a little rough, but memorable? Living away from the comforts of home. Whether you have an apartment, a dorm, your first house, or some sort of residence that is not the house you grew up in, I’m sure you can relate to most of these!
