America Is In Good Hands

Despite the inconsistency of human leadership, God reigns supreme.

Election time usually brings visions of hope and belief that a new day is coming. However, this year it seems like a lot of people are voting for a candidate just to keep votes away from someone else. It is a scary political age we are entering. Lies are abundant and irrational decisions are looming. In the midst of the negativity, there is good news. Despite the inconsistencies of human leadership, God reigns supreme.

In order to clarify, I am not saying that politics are unimportant. I will be voting and I do follow debates and political issues. However, my core belief is that all political issues stem from one thing: sin. Racism, prejudice, murder and injustice are all results of our sinful nature and not the decision making of any one president.

Do not be discouraged by our sinful results, because God has defeated this. These sins come from temptations by Satan. Romans 3:23 says, " For all have sin and fall short of the glory of God." While this seems ominous, Romans 6:18 says, "You have been set free from sin and have become slaves to righteousness." This, my friends, is great news. God has eliminated the need for these issues by defeating them at their source.

If we place our confidence in the leadership of man, we will be disappointed. History is full of poor leaders who led their countries into destruction. The nation of Israel endured countless poor leaders and they were God's chosen people. While enduring those leaders, God consistently led them out of destruction. God has proven time and time again that he is worthy of our trust. Who are we to not trust God to lead us? Are we any different?

Psalm 93:1 says, "The Lord reigns, He is clothed with majesty; the Lord has clothed and girded Himself with strength; Indeed, the world is firmly established, it will not be moved." The Lord indeed reigns. It is important to recognize why this is important. What sets Christians apart is that we place our faith in something higher. Non-Christians find disappointment and lack of joy in the failure of people. We serve a God that never fails and never changes.

Friends, let us be encouraged because we follow the ultimate leader -- a leader that is the ultimate picture of what sacrificial love is. How great is it that our God, in all of His glory, leads us every single day. I encourage you to allow Him to lead. We put so much emphasis on who we vote for, but we don't allow God to rule our lives. America is in great hands if we allow ourselves to be. God intercedes and acts according to His good and perfect will. Will you let him?

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
