Dear fellow Americans,

We, as a society have slowly but surely unraveled ourselves from the world of "dating", and woven ourselves into the world of "hooking up".

We have slipped away from the "old fashioned" way of dating and whisked ourselves into this false reality of what we presume dating should be.

America is moving away from the idea that dating is done in order to find your future spouse and is now transforming into dating is done in order to find temporary pleasure or a fun time.

This is incredibly disheartening.

I believe the culprit of this monstrosity can be defined in one simple word....

Commitment.

Dictionary.com defines commitment in two different ways, the first being "the state or quality of being dedicated to a cause".

While the second definition states "an engagement or obligation that restricts freedom".

Wow. Welcome to the English language folks, where one word can take on two completely different meanings.

The first definition is the one I personally stand by. If a person is committed to you it means they are loyal and dedicated to you and only you.

The second definition is the one that most Americans refer to when it comes to the "scary" word of commitment. People view it as a stripping of their freedom.

This is why people find it hard to date and easy to hook up.

Dating requires time, effort, dedication, as well as the need to expose your inner feelings.

On the contrary, having a fun night out with your friends and casually hooking up requires.....uhmmm....nothing! No strings attached, no dedication, and no feelings.

But dont you want something more fulfilling? Something that makes you want to get out of bed in the morning and be the best version of yourself for that special someone?

Here's a poem I wrote titled "Commitment"

Ladies, keep your standards high and never lower them no matter the event or occasion

Men, dont settle for an easy problem, rather strive for the woman whose a hard equation

Because dating in order to find your future spouse will lead to fulfillment down the road

Dont give everyone the password to your heart, wait for the one that deserves the code

Because casually hooking up often results to feeling the complete opposite of full

After many nights of partying and "just having fun", your heart is what really takes a toll

Ladies, look for gentlemen in this world, ones that are done with their days of being boys

Men, treat women with the respect they deserve and not like that of trash or toys

Lets make America date again, end this idea that hooking up is the new ideal situation

Find the one that makes you strive for greatness and gives you their complete dedication

Because the word "commitment" isn't scary, it just means their intentions for you are true

Strive for a virtuous relationship with one another and you will become one of the few

New year, new semester, not the same old thing. This semester will be a semester to redeem all the mistakes made in the previous five months.

1. I will wake up (sorta) on time for class.

Let's face it, last semester you woke up with enough time to brush your teeth and get to class and even then you were about 10 minutes late and rollin' in with some pretty unfortunate bed head. This semester we will set our alarms, wake up with time to get ready, and get to class on time!

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.
