A Nation Divided

The fight is over, and now is the time to reunite.

A Nation Divided
New York Daily News

It is no secret that this election has created a great divide in our country, and this divide needs to close. The bashing, the shaming, and the hateful social media posts are just the smaller things that are strengthening this seperation between the American citizens. We are shaming our friends and neighbors for who they voted for. We are bashing our family members for not not having our same political views. We are participating in violent rallies and protests. The videos of Trump supporters physically harming Clinton supporters and vice versa, and the hateful words posted about this election are the elements that are degrading the American way.

This violence-ridden election is over, so let's close this divide. We as citizens of America need to have respect for one another, and stop the spread of hatred and violence. One person's negative Facebook post or tweet is not going to change who was elected to govern our country, so the posts need to come to a halt. We need to find common ground. It is time to stop this madness and come together. Our great nation has made the decision to hand the presidency over to Trump, so all we as citizens can do is give him a chance. Optimism is key.

"Hillary has worked very long and very, very hard over a long period of time and we owe her a major debt of gratitiude for her service to our country." Hillary's opponent spoke these words early this morning, just after discovering he won the election. Clinton congratulated him as well on winning the election. Even after a long and tiring battle filled with campaigns and brutal debates, these two, in the end, still united and made peace with eachother. America needs to follow in their footsteps and put all of this hatred behind us, and be hopeful for the future.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate

"A Christmas Story" is the star on top of the tree.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate

One staple of the Christmas season is sitting around the television watching a Christmas movie with family and friends. But of the seemingly hundreds of movies, which one is the star on the tree? Some share stories of Santa to children ("Santa Claus Is Coming to Town"), others want to spread the Christmas joy to adults ("It's a Wonderful Life"), and a select few are made to get laughs ("Elf"). All good movies, but merely ornaments on the Christmas tree of the best movies. What tops the tree is a movie that bridges the gap between these three movies, and makes it a great watch for anyone who chooses to watch it. Enter the timeless Christmas classic, "A Christmas Story." Created in 1983, this movie holds the tradition of capturing both young and old eyes for 24 straight hours on its Christmas Day marathon. It gets the most coverage out of all holiday movies, but the sheer amount of times it's on television does not make it the greatest. Why is it,
then? A Christmas Story does not try to tell the tale of a Christmas miracle or use Christmas magic to move the story. What it does do though is tell the real story of Christmas. It is relatable and brings out the unmatched excitement of children on Christmas in everyone who watches. Every one becomes a child again when they watch "A Christmas Story."

It’s here; that time of year when college students turn into preschoolers again. We cry for our mothers, eat everything in sight, and whine when we don’t get our way. It’s finals, the dreaded time of the semester when we all realize we should have been paying attention in class instead of literally doing anything else but that. Everyone has to take them, and yes, unfortunately, they are inevitable. But just because they are here and inevitable does not mean they’re peaches and cream and full of rainbows.
