7 Unexpectedly Amazing Things About Being In A Sorority

There are a lot of stereotypes concerning Greek Life, both positive and negative, that just barely scratch the surface of what being in a sorority is actually like. I have gained so much since joining my sorority and cannot believe how impactful it has been on my life.

My eyes have been opened to a whole new level of wonder, and here are some of the reasons why...

1. I have instantaneously gained over 100 friends

When you join a sorority, you are thrown into a random room and stand among a variety of people that you don't know at all. You look at them and think, "okay these are my new friends now?" ...But the crazy part is that they all really do become your friends. You become so close with them that you can't even fathom the fact that they weren't in your life before that moment.

2. I am constantly surrounded by a powerful group of women

The leadership and devotion that my sisters have shown in running our chapter makes me feel so proud to be involved. Not only in efforts put into our sorority, but in efforts involving education have my sisters impressed me and made me want to become more devoted to the things I am passionate about.

3. I am repeatedly baffled by how successful and brilliant my sisters are

The brilliance along with the energy that my sisters put into their jobs, school work, internships, and responsibilities has led me to realize that they will all go on to do amazing things while following their dreams.

4. I am constantly motivated and inspired to be involved and make a difference

Watching my sisters involve themselves with amazing causes, devoting themselves to being positive members of society has made me want to do the same. Their self-motivation in the care they put into their passions is truly astounding.

5. I have never seen so much acceptance and love among so much diversity

It is amazingly beautiful to be affiliated with a group of women who are so different from one another, but love each other all the same.

6. I have a support system of over 100 people

Whenever I need a shoulder to cry on, or to talk about anything in the world no matter how ridiculous, my sisters are always there to support me and listen. I have trusted them with my most emotionally vulnerable information.

7. I never am or feel alone

No matter if it's for an ice cream date, venting session, or walk across campus, I always have a sister to call. We all have each other's backs, and I am so incredibly thankful to have experienced such amazing friendship at this point in my life.

cousins

I've known you your entire life. More than likely I held you in the first three days of it and at least one of us cried. Cousins are truly one of the best things in the world and while sometimes I complain about how many people crowd Grandma's living room on Christmas Eve, I wouldn't trade you all anything.

You are my best friends, the only people who can understand what it's like on Thanksgiving, and you are the spunkiest people I have ever met. But you as so so young, most of you are just now starting your adventures in the public education system. I mean, I'm so very young too. I'm not married, I don't have children, heck, I just started my adult life, but I do want to give you what little advice I have. My dears, these are the things I want you to know.

The first two weeks of classes have come to an end and they have been anything BUT easy. It seems like life has been serving up more bad than good and in all honesty, the only thing you want to do is crawl under your covers and hide from the rest of the world.

Although this seems like the best solution, it is also the easy way out. Take it from the girl who took basically a whole week off from her life because she just could not handle everything that was being thrown at her. This caused her to feel extremely lonely and even more stressed out for being behind in classes that JUST began.
