Amazing Secret Vacation Destinations In Europe

Everybody loves Paris, Barcelona and Rome. The canals in Amsterdam are beautiful and shopping is great in London. However, Europe has more to offer than these places that are overcrowded with millions of tourists each year.

Here are some beautiful places you should´t miss to visit. You might haven´t heard of them, however, that doesn't make them less attractive.

Lofoten, Norway

Lofoten is a group of about 80 islands located on the coast of Norway. It is known for it´s excellent fishing and nature attractions and small villages off the beaten track.

One thing you must do: Taste stockfish and be amazed by the midnight sun.

Meteora, Greece

The Meteora (Greek: Μετέωρα, pronounced [mɛˈtɛoɾɐ], lit. "middle of the sky", "suspended in the air" or "in the heavens above" — etymologically related to "Meteorite") is one of the the six monasteries that are built on natural sandstone rock pillars, in central Greece.

One thing you must do: Hike to the monasteries.

Hvar, Croatia

The city of Hvar is a unique fusion of luxurious Mediterranean nature, rich cultural and historical heritage, and mundane, tourist present.

One thing to do: Enjoy a sea kayaking tour.

Munich, Germany

Munich is known as the beer capital of the world for good reason.

One thing to do: Visit the Oktoberfest.

Coimbra, Portugal

Located halfway between Lisbon and Porto, this Portuguese town boasts one of the oldest academic institutions in Europe, and visitors here can partake in lively local festivals and traditions.

One thing to do: Visit the university district. When the academic year winds down, Coimbra becomes party central.

Warsaw, Poland

Known as the “Phoenix City," Warsaw has experienced its fair share of change. The Polish capital was practically demolished during World War II, but has since reinvented itself as an up-and-coming metropolis.

One thing to do: Visit Warsaw University’s library for one of the most beautiful views in Europe.

Budapest, Hungary

Although Budapest is the largest city and capital of Hungary, it’s still often overlooked on the itineraries of many tourists. The neo-Gothic Parliament building is a must-see, as are Castle Hill and the Castle District.

One thing to do: Visit street food markets to get a taste of Hungary.

These are just a handful of places that are underrated in Europe. Go out there and explore yourself what else is out there!

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs.
