Often when I am on a writing block on a script or when I’m feeling the need to take a break; I go to places of inspiration or do interesting activities just to clear my thoughts out. Each place or activity brings out a sense of relief and interest as I further explore it myself in my own backyard.
3. Seven Falls
Hiking up Sabino Canyon’s seven falls was quite an adventure, the seven-mile hike up the rocky trails and the large puddles during the winter floods proved quite an arduous journey. My mind felt more focused on the progress of completing the hike and, occasionally, observing the world below. I wouldn’t mind going back to climb higher peaks even in the heavy monsoon season, it’s exhilarating when you look down the falls and observe the view.
2. University Boulevard
When I was in high school and wanted to ease my stress from class, I would head out on my early release days and hang around the restaurants on university boulevard. Either a cup of coffee at Café Luce or chowing down some noodles at Pei Wei felt like an escape from reality.
1. Horseback riding
Living in the southwestern part of town, my family is neighbors with ranchers and have access to horseback riding. My brother and I train their horses for trail riding or roping; as difficult as it looks, it’s actually fun and stress relieving.
Whether it be an evening trail ride in the desert, grooming the horses or roping in our neighbor’s arena has always brought a calmness to me. Sometimes even the conversations with our neighbors seem to inspire and catch my brother and I in awe. Hearing stories about their rodeo experiences or travels would last the entire evening.
Overall these three relievers have always worked well for me even in the most stressful situations. Amazing what places or activities of comfort you find here in Tucson.
