2017's line-up of movies looks like one of the best yet. Huge Disney titles such as the live-action "Beauty and the Beast" and "Guardians of the Galaxy 2" look to be great movies in the near future. Many movies are getting a sequel this year such as "Jumanji" and "Pirates of the Caribbean," but there are only a handful of movies that will make a real success. There are many heavier hitters in releasing this year, but only five will truly be amazing. Here they are.
5. Kong: Skull Island
The last King Kong movie that was released was not well accepted among fans. I personally really enjoyed it and I am very excited for this one. There are a few reasons why this movie will be amazing. For one, King Kong is much much larger than in the previous films. The reason he is so much large in this movie is because, in 2020, Godzilla and King Kong will battle it out in their own movie. The previous King Kongs would have no chance at a creature the size of Godzilla and so he had to be enhanced just a bit. Trailers have been released for this movie and look great. "Kong: Skull Island" releases on March 10.
4. Thor Ragnarok
The last two Thor movies didn't do much for me. I thought they were mediocre compared to the other superhero movies that were releasing at the time. The reason I have his third installment on this list is because it has an all-star cast with some other super people in it such as Hulk and Doctor Strange, making this Thor must see. Mark Ruffalo and Benedict Cumberbatch will be reprising their roles as their super alter egos making for an amazing movie to watch. "Thor Ragnarok releases November 3.
3. Power Rangers
When I was a kid I loved to watch "Power Rangers". My brother always teased me about it, but it was too good not to watch. Now I finally get to continue to watch it when I am an adult. With a short film released about the power rangers that was very adult oriented with blood and sex, a huge movement for a more adult version of a film to be made started and it's finally happening. "Power Rangers" does have a trailer already released and it looks amazing of course. The trailer shows a little bit of how they obtain their abilities and what happens soon after. They also give a sneak peak at the enemy that is to come. "Power Rangers" opens up in theaters this March 24.
2. Star Wars Episode VIII
Star Wars had to make this list but is unable to obtain the top spot due to other factors. Episode eight will release December 15 like all the previous Star Wars movies. There is no trailer for it yet, but Kathleen Kennedy says there will be one around the beginning of spring. That is when all the nerds will begin to speculate hardcore. Episode eight is bound to be a huge episode that will answer many questions that we all have and I'm sure we will have many more questions once it's over.
1. Alien Covenant
"Alien" is my favorite movie of all time. I love Star Wars, but nothing can beat the horror aspect and the iconic work of the movie "Alien." Ridley Scott returns after directing the sequel to "Prometheus" which is a prequel to "Alien." Many people did not like some of the plot holes "Prometheus" had such as the advanced technology and a few characters but overall, I personally enjoyed it. "Alien Covenant" does have a trailer and it is going straight to the horror genre within the first few seconds. Ridley Scott is taking us back to those enclosed dark spaces and terrifying locations like he did in the original film. "Alien Covenant" releases on May 19.
