Former child star Amanda Bynes has finally broken her silence after four years and hints at a return to television and film.
Bynes was widely known for her hit '90s show "The Amanda Show" which ran from 1999-2002 on Nickelodeon. Following the conclusion of the show, she went on to star in several hit movies including "She's the Man" and "Hairspray" before things took a dramatic turn.
There was a lot that had taken place with Bynes that caused her to retreat out of the spotlight. She was facing mental health issues, charged with two hit and runs and two DUI arrests. A trend that seems to be consistent with other former child stars, such as Lindsay Lohan and Shia LaBeouf, who have both had multiple run-ins with the law.
Childhood Trauma Recovery founder David Hosier MSc stated in his 2014 article "Childhood Fame: The Downside", the many possible contributions that lead to the demise of many former child stars.
"The public has a tendency to project their ideas of what is good, beautiful and innocent onto the famous child, so the child becomes a symbol or icon, representing these qualities...an image that's impossible to live up to," said Hosier.Hosier also stated that the common trait of child stars that go bad is the common need to feel normal. "The child star is set apart, by definition of being famous, which deprives him/her of that fundamental psychological need," said Hosier.
We don't know how child stardom truly affected Bynes, but these are all possible contributions. In her interview with Hollyscoop's Diana Madison on Friday, Bynes said that she is three years sober and goes hiking, feeds the homeless and takes spinning classes. She discussed her string of Twitter rants that had people questioning her stability. She admitted that the rants stemmed from the drugs she was taking at the time.
Regardless, fame comes with a price and not everyone survives the pressures that Hollywood throws at you. It's great to see Bynes clean up her act and get back on track. She seems to be headed on the path to success, she looked healthier and happier than she has been in years. Bynes stated that she is currently in fashion classes at FIDM, where she has learned how to sew, and has a plan for a fashion line in the future. As far as her acting career goes, she is planning on returning to our screens in the near future.
"I want to do TV, maybe a few guest spots on some shows that I'm a fan of and maybe another TV show that I'm the star of it," said Bynes.
Does this mean we could see an "Amanda Show" revival in the near future?
