By the title of this, I’m sure you’re assuming I’m making a parody of a candidate’s political slogan to support her opponent. The truth is: I don’t support either. I along with countless others have gotten hate from both sides because of this, and it is frustrating to have to explain to both sides why I refuse to support him but I also refuse to support her. I do however support Him, and by Him, I mean my Heavenly Father. Not only do I support Him, but I have faith that whatever the outcome of this devastating election season, He has a plan and He hasn’t forgotten us.
Like many people, I was upset with the outcome of the election. I was upset because a man whose platform that was built upon racism, xenophobia, sexism, and bigotry appealed to the majority of America. I was upset because a man was able to incite hatred within so many people who not only agreed with him, but also disagreed with him. I was upset because those that voted for him for the wrong reasons felt vindicated in their racism and bigotry.
These were all justifiable reasons to be upset. While wallowing in my anger and frustration that day, I came to the realization that everything happens for a reason. No matter good or bad, God appoints leaders. He appoints leaders to help a nation flourish, or he appoints leaders to punish. Whether it is to flourish or punish, we won’t know until he is in office, but I think we as a nation need to reflect on what we’ve done to deserve Donald Trump as our president. We as Christians need to come together and pray that our country repents for all of the things we have done that have gotten us to where we are. I do not believe it is a time to be celebrating, but it should be a time to be praying fervently that our nation becomes united once again.
I pledge allegiance to my God in Heaven that knows better than any leader we as a people could elect. He has a plan, and no matter how confusing it is, it will work out the way it is supposed to. He is outside of time. He knows what He is doing. I just know that my duty as a Christian is to fight against injustice, which I will continue to do, and to love my neighbor as myself. I think this should be everyone’s duty right now. We need to stand up and speak out for those being persecuted against, especially now.
Whether you voted for Donald Trump or Hillary Clinton, just know that I still love you because I will not let politics ruin my relationships. I will, however, let racism, sexism, and bigotry ruin them. We were given two horrible candidates, and you voted the way your conscience told you to. I respect that, but I won’t respect you trying to erase the terrible things your candidate has said and done (which goes for both candidates). I just pray that through these next four years, our nation can come together once again instead of being torn apart by hatred and intolerance.
