Yeah, you read that right. I am a witch.
I'm not insulting myself or being suggestive. I am a literal Witch. So now you know. Now for my well thought out explanation in hopes that I don't get crucified in the comments section...
So first off, what is a witch? A witch is someone who practices witchcraft.
"Okay Sam, so what is witchcraft? " Well, I'm so glad you asked. Unfortunately, my answer might annoy you even more. Honestly, witchcraft is anything you want it to be that has something to do with nature and or spirituality or any variation of the two. So you like gardening and sometimes talk to your plants? Hey, you could be a witch! Oh, you hang wind chimes and sit out on your porch on stormy evenings to listen to them chime? Hey, you could be a witch!
I use "could" because obviously there a lot of people who do those mundane tasks and do not consider themselves to be a witch. If you think you are a witch, call yourself a witch, then you are a witch. Plain and simple. But you don't have to call yourself a witch if you don't think you are one because witchcraft is not a religion and does not hold specific rules.
"But don't all witches practice Wicca?" Nope, not all of us. Wicca is a religion yes, and is connected to witchcraft, but you can be a witch with or without religion. Witchcraft is a practice, plain and simple. People who practice yoga or meditation don't call their practice a religion. Witchcraft is a lot like yoga actually. But not everyone practices witchcraft the same way, kinda like not everyone practices yoga the same way.
There are so many forms of witchcraft that are so vastly different. Honestly, the variations of witchcraft are probably why the craft is so hard to define. I know witches who cast spells and curses, while others talk to spirits, play with tarot cards, and others (like me) use simple herbs and symbols. Like yoga, witchcraft takes a certain personal amount of self-understanding and grace. Each witch is different, and has their own way of practicing; that's what makes the craft so beautiful.
Witchcraft to me is home. I have felt a very special bond with nature for as long as I remember. When I discovered my craft, I found that bond again; it was almost tangible, like I could reach out and touch it. I am a baby witch, so I don't know much. I do know that I am a person, and that witchcraft is simply part of the many layers of me. I'm still a college student, I still do homework and stay up too late and procrastinate too much. I'm still me. So when you read this and judge me for admitting that I believe in my own personal prowess by practicing witchcraft, remember that I'm still a person.
