"I Am Short"
But I am tall in the length of the bridges connecting my everyday thought processes
in the amount of walls I will break down to allow others a short viewing of who I am inside
and in the distances I have traveled spanning diversities to let it be known that acceptance is the key to dissolving a hateful heart.
I Am Short
Yes, both in height and admittingly, sometimes, my temper
in the amount of breaths I've taken in legitimate relaxation
and in my tolerance for those who shame others for personifying the word "happiness" in ways they see fit.
Yes, I am five feet tall
but because I am given the ability to seek peace within life's smallest and largest gifts, I feel seven feet tall.
because writing has gifted me a platform to connect words and thoughts together in loosely-woven metaphors, I feel seven feet tall.
because I am alive during a time where the endlessly liberating blessings that are poetry and journalism are being stifled,
we must write until we are seven feet tall.
