"New year, new me." You hear it over and over and over. It's even the caption for someone's selfie, or their latest tweet. You see it everywhere, and quite often enough, you get annoyed because of how often you see that saying. But really, this shouldn't be the attitude. Instead we should be encouraging it, and encouraging the people that are using the saying "new year, new me."
We should be encouraging it because we don't know about everyone's life. A person might have had the worse year ever and using the new year as a way to move on and get a new start. The new year is the perfect time to start fresh, because well, it is a new year. It gives the opportunity for new everything to happen. A new hairstyle, a new friend, a new career, a new attitude, anything new.
We should be encouraging it because the person will want the support to take this step into their new lifestyle. They will want to know that no matter what, they have friends supporting them and rooting for them. Taking this step will be scary for them, and knowing they have support makes it easier for them to take this step.
As for yourself, your part in the "new year, new me" can be how you change the way you support people. Support the people that post the "new year, new me" status and let them know you're there. Be there instead of posting about how annoying the saying is, and discouraging those who are taking this new step even more. Together, we can become a more encouraging and supportive to others people.
