I Am Never Going to be a Second Choice; Not in God's Eyes

God has this unconditional love for us that I can't even understand. However, I know it's there and I know He will never take that love away.

Lately, I find myself feeling lonely and unwanted. Like I can do nothing right and that my feeling don’t matter. But in the midst of my crazy life, one truth sticks out to me at this moment. I will never be a second choice. At least, not in God’s eyes.

Life is hard. Life is harder without God. Being a college student, there are times when I feel absolutely alone in this world. When classes get frustrating or when my friend group is too busy for me, obviously I’m sad.

When my mind takes me to that depressing place and I can’t seem to get a grip on my own life, I get discouraged. However, God promises to never leave me alone. I am not a second choice to Him.

Deuteronomy 31:8 says, “The Lord himself goes before you and will be with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged.”

This is just one light among many that God presents to us through His word. He will never leave us to our despair and He will never give up on us.

In college, many people are looking for that person that will one day become a wife or husband. For me, I find that it is easier to just pray about it and give it to God. I don’t want to end up in a situation that is unhealthy for me spiritually, emotionally, or physically.

So I implore those who wait for God to show them the way, their path. It’s hard to trust Him when you so desperately want someone to care for you. But if you turn to God, I promise you will find all the love you ever need.

God stretches His glorious hand out for His children, He never wants you to feel like you have to take on this big scary world by yourself. A lot of the time, I think we lose sight of this truth.

God also teaches us to be content with what we have. There are so many desires in the world today. So many wants when all we need is Him. He will not leave you; He will not leave me.

His love is so amazing that it conquers all. His unconditional fatherly love wraps around us and willingly comforts us. Look to Him and your soul will finally find peace. He will never leave you behind and you will never be a second choice for Him.

I am reminded of one of my favorite Christian songs, David Crowder’s “Lift Your Head Weary Sinner” and the lyrics that go, “Love is here to lift you up, here to lift you high.” God is love, and He is here for you.

If you don't think God loves you, because of any circumstance, I can stand here and truthfully tell you that you are wrong. God wants you to run to Him and find rest with Him. When you finally do, there can be no greater feeling.

You are not alone. You are not a second choice. You are so loved.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies. Here is a few signs that you may live in the library, whether you'd like to admit it or not.
