Always Promote Religious Tolerance

How can we love one another without mutual respect?

Always Promote Religious Tolerance
Shelby M. Williams

There is something overwhelmingly powerful about the practice and idea of faith. Throughout human history, religion has been the cornerstone of politics, triumph of the human spirit, and order. A majority of the human population practices a pallet of faith, where there is a respected deity(s) and holy scriptures which dictate how one should conduct themselves in the eyes of the most holy. In different regions of the world, religion can be the most powerful influence within the cultural fabric of the country or the most taboo to discuss in the open. Whatever the case may be, it is imperative to understand that each person is entitled to practice whichever religion they choose to pursue. Coinciding with the creation of religion, religious tension has since existed. Having groups of peoples battle it out for which religion should be the majority amongst citizens/peoples to practice or to have it completely separate from the state and its politics. This universal truth may seem as common sense to everyone, that each person is at the mercy of their own will to practice what they believe is true. Yet there have been years of documented crusades, ethnic cleansings, genocides, war, and xenophobia at the root of religious intolerance. Today, Religious tolerance is needed. Religious tolerance is the answer. To not have a repeat of history and its hate. To avoid the monstrosities that we create out of misunderstanding. It is the act of tolerance and communication that will strip away from stereotypes that society has placed on a group of people and their practices. It is through engagement that will rid away the misconceptions a vast majority of people may have about a way of life that they have not seen or heard of before… it is the act of living through religious tolerance that will spread love and not hate. That is the ultimate mission. That is the objective that each and every person must try to strive towards. I know I do each day. Do you? If not, maybe you should start by visiting your local church, mosque, temple, or shrine. Once you have opened your eyes to the world, the world will open itself to you. Happy Holidays.

There are plenty of obstacles that come when taking care of kids, but it's a very rewarding experience.

As a college student, being a nanny over the summer is both enjoyable and challenging. Underneath the seemingly perfect trips to the pool or countless hours spent playing Monopoly are the obstacles that only nannies will understand. Trading in your valuable summer vacation in return for three months spent with a few children less than half your age may seem unappealing, but so many moments make it rewarding. For my fellow summer nannies out there, I know you can relate.

There are a lot of really easy, common names in the U.S. and while many of those simple names have different spellings, most of the time, pronunciation is not an issue that those people need to worry about. However, others are not as fortunate and often times give up on corrections after a while. We usually give an A+ for effort. So, as you could probably imagine, there are a few struggles with having a name that isn’t technically English. Here are just a few…

day·dream (ˈdāˌdrēm/): a series of pleasant thoughts that distract one's attention from the present.

Puerto Ricans. They are very proud people and whether they were born on the island or born in the United States by Puerto Rican parent(s). It gets even better when they meet another fellow Puerto Rican or Latino in general. You’ll know quickly if they are Puerto Rican whether the flag is printed somewhere on their person or whether they tell you or whether the famous phrase “wepa!” is said.
