If You Always Say No, You Will Never Know What Is Out There
Emma Sue

Dear World,

I stayed home my very first year of college. Heck! I stayed home the whole time, I never moved out but that is because I am a home body which is completely okay. I never let that stop me from exploring this great big world.

Whether you are new or it is finally your senior year and you realize you have done nothing and this is your last big hoorah! You could live on campus or off campus but guess what... I got some news for you.

I stayed home,

but I still went out.

I stayed home,

but I also go involved.

In the beginning I was convinced I would never go out, or that I would not join a sorority, or that I would even be the major I am graduating as. Never, in the world would I see myself where I am today. Yet here I am. I said yes to going to my sorority recruitment, I said yes to looking into something I really wanted to do and here I am. I have learned my human limits in life yet once I started to say yes to things I became obsessed with the exploration of what else is out there. Even when you think that nothing is possible there is. I never thought I would have money to do anything because of the influence society has on life as a college student. I was able to muster up what I could so I could see the world!

I figured out that when I said no I spent my time wondering what if? Obviously, I did not say yes to everything, if someone offered me drugs that was definitely a hard no, if someone suggested something that made me sick to think about or too uncomfortable I said no.

It is 110% okay to say no to things, but it is also unbelievably important to say yes even if it something small not everything will be big and scary. It could be a movie night with friends and you're like eh I am not sure if I want to do that but you should go anyway because this is the time to make amazing friends and meet even more amazing people.

If an opportunity that comes to you; say you get asked to volunteer for a campus event, definitely do it, you get to enjoy it and see things in a much different way. Say yes to the concert even if you don't like them. Take advantage of what is offered to you before life slams its foot on the acceleration pedal. Once you graduate you cannot go back to do what you could have done, you can only say I wish I had done that. But if you do those things you will have great stories to share later in life.

You can be responsible and you can have fun at the same time because you will be so surprised at where yes can take you.

Life is about adventure, it is time to explore!

Sincerely,

The Senior Who Decided It Was Time For Yes

New year, new semester, not the same old thing. This semester will be a semester to redeem all the mistakes made in the previous five months.

1. I will wake up (sorta) on time for class.

Let's face it, last semester you woke up with enough time to brush your teeth and get to class and even then you were about 10 minutes late and rollin' in with some pretty unfortunate bed head. This semester we will set our alarms, wake up with time to get ready, and get to class on time!

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.

December... it's full of finals, due dates, Mariah Carey, and the holidays. It's the worst time of the year, but the best because after finals, you get to not think about classes for a month and catch up on all the sleep you lost throughout the semester. But what's worse than finals week is the last week of classes, when all the due dates you've put off can no longer be put off anymore.
