A Letter To My Person

You are the first I tell when something good happens and even when something bad happens.

A Letter To My Person
Abby Willingham

To my person,

You know who you are. You know EXACTLY who you are. You’re always the first person that I call when something bad happens, when something good happens, when I’m happy, or when I’m sad. You've become more than my best friend; you're my sister and basically family. You are my go to person to talk about everything with. I may have only known you for a few years but, you still know every aspect of the life I lived before I met you. We've seen each other at rock bottom, but we've also seen each other at some of our highest points in life. Why? Because you’re my absolute best friend and my person.

You’ve been there for me through the break ups, failing grades on tests, hitting rock bottom, for all of the guy troubles, and SO MUCH more. You are my rock and I’m truly blessed to have you. I honestly don’t know where I would be if God hadn’t put you in my life during our freshmen year of college. You started out as just someone I went to the same school with to being my best friend to being my perfect roommate and now we’re still going strong into our Senior year of college. It’s still crazy to think that you’ve been by my side for this long but I’m sure glad that you’ve stuck through it all with me!

I like to think of you as my platonic soulmate. We have established one of the strongest friendships that I’ve ever experienced in my 21 years of living. We were meant to be best friends in this crazy thing called life. You’re the one that I know I can call at 3 am to help calm my racing mind or even just because I miss your voice. I can always count on you to be there for me for the many times that I’m overthinking a situation (which is far too often). If I’m having a bad day, you always know how to fix it and make me happy. You know me better than I even know myself!

Thanks for being my go-to road trip buddy. Thanks for always being down to stuff our faces with Mexican food or pizza. Thanks for always being down for a 1 1/2 phone call talking about life. Thanks for going on late night drives with me to swing when the feels hit hard. Thanks for sharing a love for nerdy things as much as I do. Thanks for being as full of adventure as I am. Thanks for never holding back on telling me the truth. Thanks for always supporting me in all that I do (even if it is a terrible idea). Most importantly, thanks for being the great person and best friend that you are!

I hope that someday when we’re married with families, our husbands will get along as well and our children will be best friends too! I can’t wait to bug each other’s families with all of the crazy shenanigans that we get into. I can’t wait to grow old with you and then continue those same shenanigans in our wheelchairs or with our walkers. I can’t wait to see what God has in store for the rest of your life!

With a friendship this strong, there’s no end anytime soon or ever. We have had our fights and disagreements. We’ve let people come between us. In the end though, we always find our way back to each other. Why is that? Because you’re my person. You will ALWAYS be my person and I thank God for you everyday of my life. Never forget “Charm is deceptive, and beauty is fleeting; but a woman who fears the Lord is to be praised.” (Proverbs 31:30)

Love you forever and always to the moon and back,

Me.

P.S. Sorry if I made you cry because I know how much you hate emotions and feelings.

11 Things Summer Nannies Can Relate To

There are plenty of obstacles that come when taking care of kids, but it's a very rewarding experience.

As a college student, being a nanny over the summer is both enjoyable and challenging. Underneath the seemingly perfect trips to the pool or countless hours spent playing Monopoly are the obstacles that only nannies will understand. Trading in your valuable summer vacation in return for three months spent with a few children less than half your age may seem unappealing, but so many moments make it rewarding. For my fellow summer nannies out there, I know you can relate.

There are a lot of really easy, common names in the U.S. and while many of those simple names have different spellings, most of the time, pronunciation is not an issue that those people need to worry about. However, others are not as fortunate and often times give up on corrections after a while. We usually give an A+ for effort. So, as you could probably imagine, there are a few struggles with having a name that isn’t technically English. Here are just a few…

Daydreaming

day·dream (ˈdāˌdrēm/): a series of pleasant thoughts that distract one's attention from the present.

Daydreams, the savior of our life in class. Every type of student in the classroom does it at least once, but most cases it is an everyday event, especially in that boring class -- you know the one. But what are we thinking while we are daydreaming?

Puerto Ricans. They are very proud people and whether they were born on the island or born in the United States by Puerto Rican parent(s). It gets even better when they meet another fellow Puerto Rican or Latino in general. You’ll know quickly if they are Puerto Rican whether the flag is printed somewhere on their person or whether they tell you or whether the famous phrase “wepa!” is said.

If it hurts now, it'll hurt again. Not because you're gullible or naive, only because you fall fast, hard, and you do it every time.

We fall each and every time with the complete and utter confidence that someone will be there to catch us. Now that person we SWORE we were never going to fall for has our hearts, and every time we see them our palms start sweating. The butterflies in our stomach start to soar and our hearts are entirely too close to bursting out of our chests.
