An Open Letter To My Little Sister

To My Biggest Fan,

Do you know how special it is to be a big sister? It means loving someone unconditionally, always having someone to "hang out" with, and having a lifelong friend. I am so happy that you are my little sister. As I watch you grow older, there are a few things I want to tell you.

First of all, I want to tell you how proud I am of all you have accomplished thus far. I have watched you grow up from a little baby to a spunky, independent preteen, and I want you to know that no matter what, I will always be your biggest fan. As you continue to grow up, you will encounter challenges that will test your strength and courage. I want you to know that I am here for you every step of the way.

When things don't go right and you feel all alone, come to me. I have been through the challenges of middle school and high school, and I have dealt with bullying. Though it hurts me to see you go through these things, I want you to know that you need to stay true to yourself. When you have a question about growing up, come to me. When I was your age all I wanted was a big sister, and I never had one. I want to be that person for you. I want to be the one you come to when you need advice, a hug, or a helping hand.

As you grow up, you continue to amaze me with all the things that you do. Keep being you, and don't let anything dull the light that shines from within. I wish you could stay little forever. Since that is not possible, all I ask is that we stay close. I want you to always feel comfortable to ask me any question in the whole world. I want you to feel that you can trust me with your biggest secret, and I want to be the first one to know when you have something exciting to share.

I will hold you in my arms, as I always have, when you experience something that makes you sad or afraid. I will help you through your first heartbreak, and I will help you see that you are always loved. I want you to feel like you can always come to me.

Last but not least, I want to thank you. Thank you for inspiring me. Thank you for giving me something to smile about, for giving me someone to be proud of. Even on my worst days, when all I want to do is give up, you smile at me and give me the strength to keep going.

You are at a very special part of your life: when middle school is approaching. I can't promise that you won't be bullied, I can't promise that you won't be made fun of. I can't promise that everyone will like you. But I can promise you this: no matter what happens, for as long as I live and even after that, I will always, always be your big sister.

Love always,

Your Big Sister

27 Things 'The Office' Has Taught Us

"The Office" is a mockumentary based on everyday office life featuring love triangles, silly pranks and everything in between. It can get pretty crazy for just an average day at the office.

When you were little, your parents probably told you television makes your brain rot so you wouldn't watch it for twelve straight hours. However, I feel we can learn some pretty valuable stuff from television shows. "The Office," while a comedy, has some pretty teachable moments thrown in there. You may not know how to react in a situation where a co-worker does something crazy (like put your office supplies in jello) but thanks to "The Office," now you'll have an idea how to behave ifsomething like that should happen.

Here are just a few of the things that religious Office watchers can expect to learn.

High School And College Sucked All Of The Fun Out Of Reading

Books were always about understanding for me, about learning the way someone else sees, about connection.

High School And College Sucked All Of The Fun Out Of Reading

I keep making this joke whenever the idea of books is brought up: "God, I wish I knew how to read." It runs parallel to another stupid phrase, as I watch my friends struggle through their calculus classes late at night in our floor lounge: "I hope this is the year that I learn to count." They're both truly idiotic expressions, but, when I consider the former, I sometimes wonder if there's some truth to it.
