When I was in high school, I would hear people talking about the restaurant Chipotle, and how it was the greatest new thing. People would say how it was the greatest ‘fast-food’ they’ve ever had; it was so good. I finally caved in one day and tried it with my sister, and we couldn’t help but fall for the Mexican fast food trend. We would go there all the time; we were hooked on burrito bowls and lime-flavored chips. But, once I started to read and understand the things Chipotle stood for, I began to change my mind about where I would spend my money.
Chipotle harps on the fact that their food is ‘Non-GMO’, which means it has not been genetically modified. Being an agriculture major and understanding what good GMOs do for us, Chipotle voicing all over their restaurant, social media, and even the cups they use how openly they are against the agriculture industry made me decide that I need to take my money and my business elsewhere. Why would I spend the money I work hard to earn, on a restaurant that openly disagrees with all the values that I stand for? You can’t even take a drink without reading about all the hate being thrown at the industry that provides the food that they are using to produce their food.
One night my mom told me that we had to go to the restaurant Moe’s because I just "had to try it". I was somewhat hesitant, I am not one to break out of my shell and try new restaurants. I went in and ordered a quesadilla because you can’t order that at Chipotle, and once I tried it, I couldn’t stop eating. It was the tastiest food I’ve ever had. Plus having normal chips, and not ones weirdly tasting like lime, made Moe’s the superior. I knew that I would never again go to that other Mexican ‘fast’ food restaurant just down the street.
At Moe’s, you get quality food for a reasonable price. Plus, free chips and salsa is not a turndown. People always talk about how “Moe’s is so expensive, why would I pay more when I can eat at Chipotle?” But in reality, their price is virtually the same, and you get chips, salsa, and a drink whereas at Chipotle you get just a burrito for the equal price.
The atmosphere at Moe’s is also considerably more friendly, open, and just more welcoming than of Chipotle. As soon as you walk in the doors, all the workers shout “Welcome to Moe’s!” and albeit annoying at times, it really shows that they want you to be there.
Above all, I will always eat Moe’s before Chipotle because they stand in compliance with what I value. They don’t go broadcasting in the open how much they hate the industry that I make it my mission in life to educate people about. Moe’s produces quality food, has a friendly staff, and ultimately just has me hooked. Moe’s, you have my heart and more importantly, my stomach.
