Always make sure you never take your parents for granted. I was lucky enough to grow up with great parents who would go out of their way to make sure that I was always happy. I never really understood how much I would miss them after I moved off to college, until the day that I was leaving. The hardest feeling in the world is hugging your parents and wishing that you didn't have to leave home. Yes, there is a time to leave home and to start being an adult, but when it is that time it's like a weight holding you back. You know that after you drive off, you are going to be on your own and they won't always be there to help you and that was honestly the hardest thing to go through. I am here to tell you that it is okay to tell your parents you love them and that you appreciate everything they have done for you in your life. One of my biggest regrets when I was leaving is that I took my parents for granted a lot and that I never really thanked them for everything they had done for me. Parents do small things for their kids that we don't really notice, like going to watch you play baseball in 100 degree weather, or going to all of your band concerts, or taking you to play golf even though they could use that money on much better things. The best thing about your parents is that when no one else is there for you, your parents will be. You know that boyfriend or girlfriend that "broke your heart"? Chances are, your parents were the ones who had the conversation with you about it and gave you advice on how to fix it. You didn't make the team that you have been practicing so hard to make? Your parents will always give you the typical, "Well practice harder for next year" and even though you knew that was the answer you would get, it still feels good to get that small piece of advice. Overall just make sure to cherish them because they will always be the first ones there to help you and show you some love when you need it the most.
