It is 2016, and a large number of our conversations are over social media and texting. I am not one to say that good conversation is dead because I do believe it is still alive and well. We are all capable of having good conversation, sometimes we just forget. For those of you who may not know, the “wyd” text is on the rise. Wyd is an abbreviation for “What you doing?” Of course, this text has a time and place. However, if you are looking for a more long lasting or personal conversation, here are some questions that may get the conversation flowing —

“If you could have dinner with one celebrity, dead or alive, who would it be?”

“What is your best friend’s name? What are they like?”

“What is your sign?”

“What is your favorite animal?”

“What is the funniest joke you have ever heard?”

“What is something you would say you are exceptionally good at?”

“If you were forced to try out for a talent show, what would your act be?”

“What did you do yesterday?”

“What is your most proud achievement?”

“What are your favorite songs?”

“What makes you laugh?”

“Do you have any pets?”

“What is your favorite ice cream flavor?”

“What do you like on your pizza?”

“What is your favorite restaurant?”

“If you could be anywhere in the world right now, where would you be?”

“Where have you lived in the past?”

“If you could have any job, and get paid another to live comfortably, what would you do?”

“What are you doing tomorrow?”

“What was your most embarrassing moment?”

“What would you buy first if you won the lottery?”

“What is your favorite thing about yourself?”

“What are your pet peeves?”

“Have you ever been to a concert? If so, who?”

“What is your idea of a perfect date?”

“What is your favorite childhood memory?”

“What is your favorite sport to watch in the olympics?”

“What was the nicest thing ever said to you?”

“What are words that upset you?”

“What is the last thing you ate?”

“Paper or plastic?”

“If you could own an entire store, what would it be?”

“Do you believe in a life after death?”

“What is your favorite day of the week?”

“What are you most looking forward to in this moment?”

“Do you play any sports?”

And last but not least, my favorite question of all, “What are you passionate about?” I could personally listen to someone talk about something they’re passionate about for hours. Ask questions to strangers, ask questions to people you already know. People are so complex, and there is always more to learn. Take time to get to know your fellow humans, you never know what you will find out until you ask.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
