Hi, I'm Jack, and I'm not a fan of most music from my generation. I can listen to rap, hip hop, pop, or whatever is on the radio, but it's not what I'm going to want to show my kids when I get older. I'm like those old people that will say, "That's not real music, THIS is real music!" and then force my kids to listen to all of Young the Giant's albums.

So, here's future 40+ year old Jack's playlist for his kids to listen to, to represent fifteen of the best (in my opinion) songs from my generation, that may not've been the most popular on the radio.

I'll try to not make them all Young the Giant songs!

1. "Ride"- Twenty One Pilots

There are so many Twenty One Pilots songs to choose from, so I chose the one I like to hear on the radio the most. As a parent, I wouldn't have issue showing all of Twenty One Pilots' songs to my kids.

2. "When You Were Young"- The Killers

Oh, guitar hero. Thanks for showing me great songs.

FYI the song starts at about 1:25 in the music video.

3. "Mind Over Matter"-Young the Giant

I couldn't help myself. That's one Young the Giant song.

Also check out their "In The Open" version, which I think is slightly better.

4. "We Are Young"- Fun.

This song won "song of the year" at the 2013 GRAMMY's. So it's probably okay.

5. "Jackie and Wilson"- Hozier

"We can name our children Jack(ie) and Wilson, raise 'em on rhythm and blues"

6. "Stolen Dance"- Milky Chance

The names rhyme^

7. "Sea of Love"- The National

Fun fact, the National's music can be heard in Game of Thrones. Look it up! Beware of spoilers, however.

8. "Not Your Fault"- Awolnation

Who says you can't make a good music video out of claymation?

9. "Mess is Mine"- Vance Joy

Another case of "any (enter artist's name) song will do."

10. "Little Black Submarines"- The Black Keys

The song starts off slowly, but I promise you, it kicks up in the most epic way.

Also, take notice that this is the shorter version.

11. "Helena Beat"- Foster the People

Also one of my favorite music videos...

12. "Electric Feel"- MGMT

Oh man, I can't wait until the day I look at my son and say, "Today, we are listening to MGMT" and watch him fathom this band.

Side note/fun fact: This song makes for a great alarm/I use this song for my morning alarm.

13. "Dead Sea"- The Lumineers

I couldn't find a music video, so use your imagination.

14. "Colours"- Grouplove

The song starts around the 53 second mark, but take notice of Grouplove's artistic...perspective.

Also, I wouldn't suggest this music video for children.

15. "Typhoon"- Young the Giant

Ha! You thought I had given up my bias! Also, my neighbor really likes this song too.

There isn't a regular music video, so I present you with the "In The Open" version, which is much more similar to the original than "Mind Over Matter." I still suggest you listen to all of Young the Giant's albums music.

Did I miss any great alternative songs?

Do you hate alternative songs?

Cool, let me know in the comments!

But only if you listen to all of these songs first.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies. Here is a few signs that you may live in the library, whether you'd like to admit it or not.
