Alpha Phi at Florida State University is stepping up their philanthropy game this spring semester and it’s something that needs to be talked about. In years past our spring philanthropy was known as Phifa, a soccer tournament where organizations could make teams and compete against each other for the winning trophy. As fun as this event was, it sadly only raised roughly $3,000 every year. This just isn’t enough for us. We know as a chapter we are capable of doing so much more. Why is our fall philanthropy our only big event we put on? There is no rule that says you can’t make both semester’s just as huge. So we took on the challenge.
This year Alpha Phi will be hosting our first ever Heart Race 5K Sunday, March 5 at 9 a.m. We chose this kind of event for many different reasons. We have such a close relationship with Tallahassee Memorial Hospital (TMH) and it dawned on us that they were never involved in our spring Phifa games and that just didn’t seem right. When we reached out to them and mentioned the idea of this 5K they were more than excited to sign up and come out to the race. How great is it to have the hospital the Alpha Phi Foundation awarded a $50,000 grant to will be participating in our philanthropy benefiting Women’s Heart health and the Heart and Vascular Center at TMH? It's nothing shy of amazing. Not only did we want TMH to be a part of it but we wanted our philanthropy to go beyond the FSU campus. Alpha Phi wants the entire Tallahassee community to be involved because our cause affects everyone; so why not reach out to the entire population.
By starting a new philanthropy we also set a new goal of $15,000! If we reach this we would raise 5X the amount we usually make during the spring semester. So come out and support Alpha Phi this week as we raise money and awareness benefiting Women’s Heart Health and Tallahassee Memorial Hospital Heart and Vascular Center!
