11 Reasons Alpha Chi Omega Is My Home
Alpha Chi Omega, University of Colorado Boulder

I've been part of this wonderful sorority for a little more than a school year. No matter what, I know these lovely ladies will always have my back with everything, from boys to grades to mental breakdowns at 2 p.m. on a Wednesday. What I've learned from this amazing group of women is priceless and can never be forgotten, and it makes up some of the several reasons why I'm so lucky to have been placed in this organization.

1. We represent real, strong women.

Alpha Chi Omega's local philanthropy is domestic violence awareness, which strives to advocate for safe and healthy relationships, and minimize the amount of domestic abuse and violence we unfortunately see in the world.

2. We were created originally with the intention of being a professional music society.

Back in 1885, the main mission of Alpha Chi Omega was to have sisters come together to create the first-ever musical fraternity. By 1905, the bylaws were adjusted so that Alpha Chi Omega would add other qualifications to the sisterhood and join ranks as an official social sorority. It's so amazing that 131 years later, this sorority strives to push their sisters to their fullest potential, and to spread their wings past the musical aspect.

3. We are one of the largest sororities known today.

Standing in the Top 10 largest sororities by members, our letters are worn by over 210,000 women in the United States.

4. Our symphony is exemplar of how women should conduct their lives every day.

""Alpha Chi Omega Symphony"

To see beauty even in the common things of life.

To shed the light of love and friendship round me.

To keep my life in tune with the world that I shall make no discords in the harmony of life.

To strike on the lyre of the universe only the notes of happiness, of joy, of peace.

To appreciate every little service rendered.

To see and appreciate all that is noble in another,

Be her badge what it may.And to let my lyre send forth the chords of love, unselfishness, sincerity.

This is to be my symphony."

5. Our alumnae spread across the world with their amazing talents and accomplishments.

From former U.S. Secretary of State Condalleezza Rice to former Miss America winner Deidre Downs (2010), we have some of the strongest women activists, athletes, actresses, and reporters out there.

6. We stand behind our oath not to haze.

Because of our philanthropic values, we value our no-hazing policy. In many chapters, we participate in our Anti-Hazing Week, in which we celebrate our chapter's accomplishments and distinguished reputation. Real women do not haze.

7. We never miss an opportunity to give back.

On March 1st, Alpha Chi Omega celebrates Hera Day, a day in which all sisters pay respects to our sisterhood and give back to our community as best as we can.

8. Our motto is what makes many of us get up in the morning.

With our motto being "Together, let us seek the heights", we strive to always be better than what we are now. We follow in the footsteps of our distinguished alumnae, and continue to grow in every aspect of life.

9. We develop relationships that will last a lifetime.

Every sisterhood is different, but I do know from my chapter experiences that I have developed relationships with my sisters that no one can replace. I have found my best friends, my roommates, my bridesmaids, my personal stylists, my tutors, and my home away from home.

10. We have thousands of women who love to throw what they know and tell others how much they love being a part of the sisterhood.

Here is a recruitment video that really stands for how our sisterhood is and how much we value our own chapters.

11. When you choose Alpha Chi Omega, you get the opportunity to experience four things: friendship, leadership, learning, and service.

There's no organization like Alpha Chi Omega, and there's no sisterhood I'd rather be part of. I wanna go AXO.

6 Signs You Are An English Major

There are various stereotypes about college students, most of which revolve around the concept of your major. Unfortunately, we often let stereotypes precede our own judgments, and we take what information is immediately available to us rather than forming our own opinions after considerable reflection. If I got a dollar for every time my friends have made a joke about my major I could pay my tuition. One stereotype on campus is the sensitive, overly critical and rigid English major. Here are six telltale signs you are one of them.

27 Things 'The Office' Has Taught Us

"The Office" is a mockumentary based on everyday office life featuring love triangles, silly pranks and everything in between. It can get pretty crazy for just an average day at the office.

When you were little, your parents probably told you television makes your brain rot so you wouldn't watch it for twelve straight hours. However, I feel we can learn some pretty valuable stuff from television shows. "The Office," while a comedy, has some pretty teachable moments thrown in there. You may not know how to react in a situation where a co-worker does something crazy (like put your office supplies in jello) but thanks to "The Office," now you'll have an idea how to behave ifsomething like that should happen.

Here are just a few of the things that religious Office watchers can expect to learn.

Being pre-med is quite a journey. It’s not easy juggling school work, extracurricular activities, volunteering, shadowing, research, and MCAT prep all at the same time. High School And College Sucked All Of The Fun Out Of Reading

Books were always about understanding for me, about learning the way someone else sees, about connection.

High School And College Sucked All Of The Fun Out Of Reading

I keep making this joke whenever the idea of books is brought up: "God, I wish I knew how to read." It runs parallel to another stupid phrase, as I watch my friends struggle through their calculus classes late at night in our floor lounge: "I hope this is the year that I learn to count." They're both truly idiotic expressions, but, when I consider the former, I sometimes wonder if there's some truth to it.

One Book Made Me Question Existence In Its Entirety

"The Stranger" by Albert Campus touches upon many heavy elements... but not in the way you expect. Although it touches upon the aspects of death and love, it also deals with a hidden philosophy similar to that of nihilism.

The story follows the short life events of Meursault, a Frenchman whose carelessness for his actions eventually ends him in jail and dependent on a jury of people to judge the ethicality of his decision and the punishment that he deserves. He eventually gets the death penalty and all throughout he is nonchalant and almost apathetic towards his situation. He finally snaps when the prison sends a priest to him to absolve him of his sins and to cajole him in confessing to the lord.
