Dear Sis,

Here we are after countless years of me standing behind you and watching your move before I make mine, we are nearing the end of the road. As you registered for your last year of college my heart is a little heavier for the time being. My life has been made a whole heck of a lot easier from following your footsteps every step of the way. Some would say that makes me a follower and dependent but I just think it means I am striving for greatness because you have sure made it. As you near the end of this chapter of your life I figured I would tell you a couple things. So, here it goes:

Thank you.

I am more and more thankful every single day for you and all you constantly do for me and everyone around you. Growing up, I often stood from afar and wondered how I would get to where you are. Even at a very, very young age I always hoped to be as great as you. And here we are. I could have gone anywhere in these fifty states for college but I could not part from you or the forever friendship I have with you. I followed you to your college and made my own way alongside you. I joined a new home away from home that was your home too, and I have no regrets. Some sisters feel the need to stray and try to find their own way alone and I have come to find that it has been the best journey of my life watching you and learning alongside from you.

So thank you. Thank you for always supporting me, being my second mom, taking me out on dates, loving me even when I make mistakes, trusting my choices, giving me advice, making the big mistakes first, and always calming me down when my mind was clouded by too much of life going on around me.

You have made worlds move all around you and ever since I was born I wanted to be exactly like you. When you come to college, every little aspect of your life changes and you often become unsure. I am beyond thankful that I was always sure that I had you and even at your hardest times you always seemed to have it all together.

Here's to you and all the other great big sisters out there that pull all of us little sisters along. You have no idea how much you mean and how much we truly love you. There is no one greater in this world than a big sister. You are the first idol I ever had and no one can take that from you.

Love always,

Your Little Sis

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
