What is allelopathy?
Allelopathy is derived from Greek words meaning ‘mutual harm’, it occurs between different organisms and alters their natural functions in either a negative or positive way by excreting metabolic chemicals known as allelochemicals. These chemicals are byproducts of the different physiological stages in plants.
How does this affect your life?
1) We rely on plants to give us food, if their physiological growth growth is hindered that means it won't be able to make its own food to make food for you.
2) Some of these chemicals not only affect the plant but can also affect humans when they eat the produce. for example apple seeds contain Cyanide.Cyanide itself is a poison that kills by denying blood the ability to carry oxygen and thereby causes its victims to die of asphyxiation (deficiency in oxygen).
Are you going to die if you accidentally ate the seed? No! your body can detoxify cyanide in small doses.
3) For the people who like gardening, it is important to understand the relationship of plants in your garden so that it can thrive, because best believe if you don't the plants will kill each other!
