The Royal Wedding is finally upon us and I am so excited. I love weddings, but even more than weddings I love the Royals. I had the opportunity back in 2017 to go to London, England. I got to walk the grounds of Kensington Palace and go to the beautiful Princess Diana Memorial Garden on the grounds of Kensington. Of course, as my family and friends can imagine, I was FREAKING OUT. I was in the same place that William and Kate and so many other royals had walked numerous times. I could just envision Prince Charles walking and talking with Princess Diana about their life together, and how they wanted to start a family.
I know that the Royals do not actually have any governmental power, but they do symbolize Great Britain and thousands of years of monarchy and the changing world. That says something, right?
So here is my breakdown of the wedding of Ms. Meghan Markle Duchess of Sussex and Prince Harry Duke of Sussex.
When: May 19th, 2018 at 12 pm
Where: St. George's Chapel at Windsor Castle
Bridesmaids and Page Boys: Since Meghan has too many close friends, she thought it would be best to not have a maid of honor. So she followed the regal tradition of having bridesmaids and page boys. The bridesmaids were in no particular order Princess Charlotte, Prince Harry's goddaughters, and Meaghan's goddaughters. The page boys are Prince George, Prince Harry's godson and Brian and John Mulroney who are family friends sons.
Why: Markle and Prince Harry have allegedly been together for about 15 months, so less than 2 years. Prince Harry has supposedly had a crush on Markle for awhile now but she has been too busy acting to give the Prince a chance.
The weather: At a balmy 63 degrees, the day was just beautiful for the wedding of a lifetime. The sun was out and so were the Royal hats. Queen Elizabeth II was no exception to this rule as she stepped out in a neon green frock with a purple hat. It has since been discussed that the Queen wears bright colors so that her security can spot her faster.
She looked stunning, as did Kate Middleton stepping out in an off-white frock with a white hat. She has worn this outfit twice before, re-wearing it for the Royal wedding.
The bride herself looked absolutely radiant on her big day. It has since been revealed that she worked with the lead artistic director for Givenchy, a French designing powerhouse. The designer's name is Clare Wright Keller, and she worked closely with Meghan to help her design her dress for her wedding. The dress featured an off the shoulder pure white look with a short train. And the veil was the show stopper. It is 15 feet long, and it is hand embroidered with the 50 different Commonwealths on it. This was important to the bride, as it is apart of who she is and what she believes.
And of course, the kiss HAS to be discussed. It was enchanting, real, and fairytale like. There was no awkwardness to it. You could tell throughout the second Harry laid eyes on Meghan that they were in love, and ready to spend forever together. If that wasn't apparent enough in the look in their eyes, Harry couldn't stop crying.
There were lots of Diana-esque touches through the wedding, such as the flowers in Meghan's bouquet and Diana's older sister speaking at the wedding. This brought Prince Harry to tears, as he wished his mother was here joining him on his big day. Diana's infamous aquamarine ring was also worn by Meghan for the second after party, bringing happiness to all of the royals. Princess Diana would be so proud of her boys and who they are, and who they are still to become.
Congrats to the newlyweds! I would be lying if I said I didn't shed a tear or two, or wish that I was there watching the carriage go by with the new Duke and Duchess of Sussex. So I settled and watched the wedding live at 6am on my couch in Kansas City.
