It's no surprise that information travels the fastest online. While browsing through social media a few days ago, I came across dozens of frenzied posts from fans of the band twenty one pilots known as "the clique." I quickly discovered that there seemed to be a new song of theirs leaked on the internet. So I did what anybody else would and sought out to listen to the song as soon as possible.
I found "Heathens" posted on several different sites, and had the chance to listen to it one time before it was taken down for copyright infringement. While, as of the latest album, many of their songs include heavy drums and a lot of screaming. That;s why when I heard "Heathens", I was surprised to hear a change in tone.
The new song sounds mystical and dark, but the lyrics remain true to the band. While joining others in posting online I found out a few more details about the song. Some of these details started out as rumors, but have been proving to be true. Here's a list of some of them below, and you can decide for yourself to believe them or not, because We Don't Believe What's On T.V.:
1. The same guy who hacked the lead singer's, Tyler Joseph, Twitter account also hacked into his email.
Or it could just be a marketing stunt, but the hacks of other musicians accounts leads me to not believe this.
2. In the email, he found audio clips from their record label, hence "Heathens" being leaked.
Although there are other theories about the origin of the leak.
3. The emails also included picture of Tyler and Josh in jail uniform.
This led people to believe a music video would come out soon. Also, Tyler changed his Twitter profile picture to him in an orange jumpsuit
4. Tyler Joseph himself leaked the music.
This would not be the first time a band released their own music early. Also, the official twenty one pilots account tweeted a series of dots and dashes "- .- -.- . .. - ... .-.. --- .--" which is morse code for "take it slow" which are lyrics from the song.
5. The song is a warning- "All my friends are heathens, take it slow"
to their old fans, also known as "frens", to be open and accepting of the new fans, since the band has gained mass popularity within the past year. On a deeper level, the band started out as a christian band, and continues to carry those values. The lyrics suggest that his fans are not religious, but should reconsider their beliefs, but on their own terms.
6. Heathens will be featured on the new Suicide Squad soundtrack.
So that's another movie I am now obligated to see in theatre this summer. It's also known that Panic! At The Disco have recorded a studio version of their cover of "Bohemian Rhapsody" that will also be featured in the movie's soundtrack.
An after all I've said, please don't forget, that by the time this article is published, new information will probably have been released, and hopefully will prove some of these rumors to be true. If there is one thing I know for certain, is that this song makes me want to dance! Let me know what you think of the song and all of the rumors in the comments below.
