For the past three years I have been in one of most impacting groups on my campus. What is that you dare ask? Well, that group no scratch that home is called Alpha Omicron Pi.
This semester I have taken on four internships, work, and school, while simultaneously working towards both working in writing and attending law school. Stress is an understatement. However, what is so incredibly unique is that everyone in this sorority supports you. They are the ones on the sidelines rooting for you to achieve your goals on days when you literally want to give up. That is something I have not found anywhere else.
I am not present at chapter nor am I able to participate in the incredible sisterhood activities that one of my family members so diligently and successfully plans (shoutout to Brielle). Regardless, that love, support, and compassion is there no matter the place or hour.
That brings me to my next point. Being part of this sorority has allowed me to think more about others rather than myself. This group of incredible women creates philanthropy events like the one this past Sunday called Strikeout Arthritis that raises money for the Arthritis Foundation. So, it is not about the cool Instagram pictures nor is it about the t-shirts you see present at every single philanthropy event. No. This sorority disregards that in the name of sisterhood and in the name of making an impact in the world.
My time with Alpha Omicron Pi is slowly coming to an end. However, I do not think about that. I think about how these women have impacted my life for the better. If you have the chance go talk to one of the sisters do it. Go to Meet The Sisters on October 19th and take the risk and go through spring recruitment in January so you to can find your home away from home.
Moreover, a sorority is more than just wearing cool letters and gear. It is about making the commitment to yourself and to the world that you will push yourself and others to be better people. That is what my time in Alpha Omicron Pi has shown me.
