What Have We Become America?

Growing up I was raised with going to Sunday School every Sunday and over the years I learned a lot the most important I learned was how to be not only a good Christian, but how to show love, compassion, strength and unity among those living in society with us. We are all brothers and sisters, sitting here I am shaken to the core. I can not believe everything I have witnessed with my own eyes on Facebook and have seen on TV.

What have we become America?

First it was the political opinions shared, I didn't mind those. I like hearing all sides just like I like learning about different religions I love learning about others perspectives in life. When I started to see people negatively impact others lives is when I had a problem. I didn't mind if someone is Democrat or Republican, what I did mind was calling one another names for whomever they supported. Second came the day before the election. I saw the constant "If you vote for Trump you're voting for a rapist" and "If you vote for Hillary you are voting for a criminal" remarks. Truthfully neither has been indicted, however people continued to make vulgar comments. I personally disagreed with someone close to me, we shared our sides and moved on. We didn't call each other names, we didn't let it break our relationship apart in the slightest. They believe what they believe and I believe what I believe and we are mature enough to respect it. What amazes me in a disgusting way is the number of GROWN ADULTS who have called others names and have mentioned "If you vote for Trump/Hillary you are a ___ and a disgrace of a parent" No one should judge someones parenting style based off of personal beliefs in politics. What are you teaching your children? It's okay to disrespect a fellow American's views by calling them horrible names however claim to be a decent person? I sit here and wonder are my parents the only ones who taught me don't argue sex, politics, or religion?

The election was almost two weeks ago and the chaos has not calmed down much, I wonder: why? Burning the nations flag, and speaking out of hate is not going to change the outcome. I don't care if you hate Hillary or Trump, remember what built this country. Many people want to leave the country and if you "hate" the United States no one is holding you back from leaving. The only way we as a nation can come up with peaceful solutions is to love one another and respect each others decisions and opinions, by doing so in the RIGHT ways. I won't condone burning a flag millions of men and women have died to protect, I won't condone hatred from any political party. I won't condone labeling people by who they voted for. It's 2016, the year everyone seems to be offended. However it is 2016 almost 2017, WE have the power to change this country and come together.

I am nice to people regardless of sexual orientation, religion, social status and physical appearance. I will be friends with anyone, I have worked with people of different cultures, and languages. I worked in Disney and made friends from all over the world. I stand among them the right ways, after the Pulse shooting in Orlando I stood among the LGBTQ community. I prayed for the community as the devastation was more than people realize. When I see families who can't provide their children with a good Christmas I adopt a family to shop for without wondering WHY can't they provide a Christmas. Every family, every person is different, we are all individuals. I was taught to love others as Christ loves us and that is why I try to be the best person I can be.

Regardless of who you voted for, stood with or stood against please know I stand with you if you are willing to come together to make the nation one we all want to be proud of to live in. A nation where burning the flag won't be an option, a nation where we won't be divided by the color of our skin or a badge on our uniform. A nation we all love one another as brother and sister as God loves each of us. After all, we all bleed one color: red.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
