Alien basslines, gangsta beats and creature feels. Possibly the only way to attempt to describe whatever happened in Philly on November 30th as Space Jesus and the rest of his extraterrestrial squad took over Coda - reminding us that hump days are really here to get us through the week. In full party mode, it didn’t take long for Coda to forget it really wasn’t the weekend yet - transforming itself into a spaceship - as commander Space Jesus and fellow commissioners Esseks and Yheti took us on a ride through the Milky Way.
With an exceptional line up, the Look Out tour did not leave room for disappointment as Esseks and Yheti made sure to set the mood right as soon as they stepped on stage - preparing and thrilling the crowd with mind-bending beats and rowdy bangers. An endless rollercoaster of bass, Yheti’s self-styled alien music melted the crowd’s brain (what was left of it) as he played around with a balance of heavy yet spiritual sounds. Satisfyingly well rounded and meticulous, Yheti got the vibes through the roof as the crowd’s excitement became more and more tangible, anxiously waiting for commander Space Jesus to take over.
Making waves with his simplicity and cheerful personality, you can feel Space Jesus charisma and high energy as soon as he grabs the mic - thanking the crowd for the support on a 4-month-in advance-sold out show before he blows everyone’s mind with his alien bass. Representing a whole community, and aware of his influence over the many tribes that came together to see him play, Space Jesus expresses his personal experiences and personality through his envisioning music - a fusion of thrilling basslines and gangsta rap - and the result could not be more pleasing.
Exploring all sorts of strangeness - in between hip-hop grooves and turbulent wobbles - Space Jesus music has all the elements that create the backbone of a genre he constantly polishes: an unique kind of future-bass-alien-hip-hop-dubstep that only sounds right when he’s in control. Featuring extraordinary samples and his authentic filthy tracks, Space Jesus got the crowd teeming with energy all night as everyone traveled together in the speed of light, shifting between some soul-searching and heavy head-banging. Turning Wednesdays into Fridays and strangers into friends, if you’re sick of this planet do not miss the chance to catch Space Jesus and the rest of the Look Out tour and get ready for a real intergalactic experience.
