Alexander Woytkiw joined the United States Marine Corps while he was in his third year of college. He was doing well in school, but he did not know what to do with his life. So, he randomly decided to join the Marine Corp since it represented who he was. His twin brother, Adam, also joined. Alex was a Special Operations Marine (Specifically, a Ground Intelligence Operator on Marine radar teams with special operations). Even though the job was technical, Alex had tons of fun and liked the sense of community. Looking back on his military career, he is proud of it and will never regret it. It changed his life and gave him a sense of direction.

While he was on active duty, Alex was selected to be on Season 12 of the Bachelorette. His military career helped him tremendously on the show. If someone sees you doing something wrong in the Marines, they will scold you because that mistake may cost a life. His “Take No Crap Attitude” may have been too much for some viewers and contestants, but he was there to be himself. If someone was acting like an idiot, he would call a spade a spade just like he would in the Marine Corps. He hopes Marines who saw the show could relate to this too.

When I asked him the question, “What was more challenging: dealing with Chad or being on the battlefield?” Alex replied, “Deploying on the battlefield was more challenging because that was real. Chad was fake and would call out other people. Deploying and fighting a good is not in comparison.” This reminded me of the time Alex, JoJo, and Chad went into the woods during their visit to Nemacolin Woodlands Resort. It was like a fight between good versus evil. When my mom and I watched that episode, we chanted, “Go, Alex! Get him!” He did defeat Chad and was congratulated by the other guys when he returned.

Finally, Alex had great advice for young people who want to join the military. He said, “I believe that people have a calling and flame inside their heart. That flame is symbolic of the desire to service for your country. If you know you have that burning passion and do not pursue it, you will wake up and regret not making that decision when you are older. If you feel it, just go into it. Just know that it is not something you can quit, and it will be lonely at times.”

Do as I say, not as I do.

Your eyes widen in horror as you stare at your phone. Beads of sweat begin to saturate your palm as your fingers tremble in fear. The illuminated screen reads, "Missed Call: Mom."

Growing up with strict parents, you learn that a few things go unsaid. Manners are everything. Never talk back. Do as you're told without question. Most importantly, you develop a system and catch on to these quirks that strict parents have so that you can play their game and do what you want.

"Friends" maybe didn’t have everything right or realistic all the time, but they did have enough episodes to create countless reaction GIFs and enough awesomeness to create, well, the legacy they did. Something else that is timeless, a little rough, but memorable? Living away from the comforts of home. Whether you have an apartment, a dorm, your first house, or some sort of residence that is not the house you grew up in, I’m sure you can relate to most of these!

There is nothing quite like family.

Family is kinda like that one ex that you always find yourself running back to (except without all the regret and the angsty breakup texts that come along with it).

No matter how long your class is, there's always time for the mind to wander. Much like taking a shower or trying to fall asleep, sitting in a classroom can be a time when you get some of your best ideas. But, more than likely, you're probably just trying to mentally cope with listening to a boring lecturer drone on and on. Perhaps some of the following Aristotle-esque thoughts have popped into your head during class.

Bob's Burgers is arguably one of the best and most well-written shows on tv today. That, and it's just plain hilarious. From Louise's crazy antics to Tina's deadpan self-confidence, whether they are planning ways to take over school or craft better burgers, the Belchers know how to have fun. They may not be anywhere close to organized or put together, but they do offer up some wise words once and awhile.
