An open letter to the most amazing parents

Dear Mom and Dad,

There is nothing more important in this world to me than you. I have had the privilege of getting to have you two as parents these past eighteen years. There have been so many amazing moments I have been able to share with you, even if I do not remember them all! This letter serves two points, to tell you thank you, and to let others realize how well they have it too, even if they do not realize it.

Thank you for always pushing me to go for gold. There have been countless times where I have wanted to give up, but you two never let me do so. There are no other people that can help me better than you two and I am so grateful to have been raised by such determinate parents. There have been times when I did not believe things were going to get better, but your faith in me proved me wrong.

Thank you for always wiping away my tears. Being a girl, you just accept the fact that crying is going to occur at LEAST three times a week (especially more now that I'm in college). However, not once have you walked away or rolled your eyes. Instead, you sat on my bed, embraced me with your warm hugs and told me that everything was and is going to be alright. I do not know how many of your shirts I have cried on, but thank you for allowing me to do so. No one will ever beat your comfort.

Thank you for believing in my dreams. From it being a ballerina, or becoming a DEA agent, you guys have always supported me in every scenario possible. Because of you, I am able to reach for the stars, and make my dreams a reality. There is no one more supportive of me than you, and for that I am eternally grateful.

Lastly, thank you for always reminding me that I am loved, and always will be. Yes, there are days where I know you thought about shipping me off to boarding school (and I'm so, SO happy you didn't), but you always made sure that I knew I was loved. Your sincerity, compassion, and love for others has made me appreciate all walks of life and these days, I couldn't be more proud to have parents who are so welcoming.

You two will always be the most important people in my life, and I am so grateful to have been blessed with you as my parents. I am very aware that I am very lucky to have the parents I do, but I just want to remind everyone that, whoever is a parent-figure to you, that they do love you and they care about you more than you will ever know. We can lose sight of that sometimes, and I think we should all start to pay a lot more attention.

I love you Mom and Dad, very much.

Love always and forever,

Your little girl.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
