A Letter To My Little Brother

No matter how tall you get, you will always be my little brother.

A Letter To My Little Brother
Tracie Thomae

Hey Little Bro!

I just want to take the time to remind you of how much I love you. You are the greatest blessing in my life and I am so thankful that God gave me an awesome brother like you!

I admire your generous spirit and how you are always wanting and willing to go out of your way to help others. Your selflessness and humbleness is so inspiring. You have a servant’s heart and are so kind and loving towards everyone you encounter.

Remember 1 Corinthians 10:31,“Therefore, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do everything for the glory of God.” There will be times when people don’t show you gratitude for your kind actions; don’t let that dishearten you. Continue to do the right thing even when no one is watching and glorify God in everything you do.

I love how you are so hardworking. You study hard and you are diligent in your school work and everything else you set your mind to. I’m so proud of you and all that you have accomplished. I know you will continue to do great things.

Remember Philippians 4:13, “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” Never get discouraged or doubt your abilities. God has great plans for you and will use you to strengthen His kingdom.

I am thankful for you and your silliness; you know how make me smile and laugh through the good times and the bad. You are always there for me when I need someone to talk to. You are my very best friend.

Now that I’m in college, I really miss seeing you every day. I miss the little things like getting to talk to you in the car on the way home from school and our random Starbucks and Sonic runs we would go on. I miss you reminding me every single day that you’re taller than me. (but that’s okay because you never forget to remind me when I come home for a visit….and it seems like you're another inch taller each time!)

Please remember that I am always here for you. If you ever need help with anything; homework, girl advice (haha), or you just want to chat—I’m only a phone call and a Facetime away.

Joshua 1:9 says, "Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be frightened, and do not be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.” This is the advice I want to give you; be strong, be courageous, and be fearless. God is with you always; live your life for Him.

I am so proud of you. I can’t wait to watch you continue to grow up and become the man who God created you to be. Always remember, no matter how tall you get, you will always be my little brother. I love you with all of my heart!

Love,

Your Sister

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
