A Letter To Graduating High School Seniors

Dear Seniors,

The countdown gets shorter and shorter with every passing day when you face the bittersweet realization that this is it: you are just days away from graduating high school. This is a time you have dreamed of since those awkward first days as a freshman. You always envied the seniors as they got out of school early and celebrated during their final days as high schoolers. Well now you're finally here. This is it. So, this is my advice to you during your last days as a high school senior.

Cherish every moment. It sounds cheesy, but it is so true. Make memories during these final days that you are going to remember forever. You will never have the same familiar and comforting feeling of being in high school again. All the sounds, smells, and routines will soon just be a memory. Take time to truly appreciate all that your high school has given you and all of the friends you have made. Enjoy every "last." Again, just try to cherish every moment. But cherish those last ones a little bit more than others.

Reflect on your time during high school. What things could you have done better with? Did you put off studying often or talked bad about people? College is a completely fresh start. Think about what things you want to work on in college and do it. College truly is your chance to be the person you want to be so do it.

Focus on finishing strong.I know that senioritis is a real thing, but make a final effort with your school work these last couple of weeks. This also may mean finishing strong in activities you participate in or even with your high school friendships.

It's okay to be scared or to cry. Moving off to college on your own is seriously terrifying so it is perfectly okay if you have panic attacks about leaving. Prepare for the waterworks saying goodbye, because the will come. I was basically sobbing at the door saying I couldn't go to school when it was time for me to move out.

But, also remember that if you lose friendships, that's okay too. College is a time in your life when you really begin to figure out who is important to you. You won't have time in your busy schedule to talk to all of your friends from home all the time, so you begin to prioritize. That prioritizing may cause you to lose friendships, but that is perfectly okay. The wonderful thing about this is that you will most likely strengthen the relationships that do survive college.

Most importantly, have fun and enjoy your days as a high school student. Your life will get much more stressful in a few months so enjoy this time while it lasts.

High School And College Sucked All Of The Fun Out Of Reading

Books were always about understanding for me, about learning the way someone else sees, about connection.

High School And College Sucked All Of The Fun Out Of Reading

I keep making this joke whenever the idea of books is brought up: "God, I wish I knew how to read." It runs parallel to another stupid phrase, as I watch my friends struggle through their calculus classes late at night in our floor lounge: "I hope this is the year that I learn to count." They're both truly idiotic expressions, but, when I consider the former, I sometimes wonder if there's some truth to it.

The Daily Struggles of Being a College Commuter

The Daily Struggles of Being a College Commuter
morethanwheels

I've been in college for four years now. I spent half my time as a commuter and half as a resident so I've experienced both sides of the housing spectrum. One thing I've learned comparing the two is that my struggles as a commuter far outweigh anything I went through while living on campus. Commuters have to deal with the problems school brings along with a slew of other issues; I've filled up my gas tank in the worst kind of weather conditions and napped in random places in public more times than I'm proud to say of. This is a list of some of the most challenging aspects of being a commuter.
