Music is a silly kind of vehicle in our daily lives. It's definitely a background component of the human condition, akin to a soundtrack to your daily film fare. Music, personally, plays a very important role in my life mainly due to the fact that I'm so attached to it, almost unhealthily I have to admit.
As freshman year passed, however, I had built a rotation of albums that I played throughout the year, all having different ties to memories that most definitely will come back here and there on each play of each album. Here's a small list.
1. Tame Impala, "Currents"
Tame Impala's third album was one I really grew fond of (however their second album "Lonerism" will always have a special place in my heart) and illustrated my first few weeks after landing in a new environment which contrasted heavily from my Texan community vibe.
2. Neon Indian, "VEGA INTL. Night School"
Transitioning from a smaller town to a bigger city was quite a culture shock, and Neon Indian's "VEGA INTL. Night School" was a perfect soundtrack to late night walks through Brookline and Downtown. Walking through town was never quite the same after that.
3. MACINTOSH PLUS, "Floral Shoppe"
MACINTOSH PLUS' Vektroid-styled, vaporwave album was my late night study partner. Some of the longest nights I ever spent writing papers were alleviated in weight due to this kitschy album.
Other albums that really soundtracked my year were:
Colin Stetson & Sarah Neufeld, "Never Were The Way She Was"
Oneohtrix Point Never, "Garden Of Delete"
Pond, "Man It Feels Like Space Again"
Kool A.D., "WORD O.K."
Erykah Badu, "But You Caint Use My Phone"
