While other cities struggle to deal with the horror of sinkholes that injure and trap people, animals and houses, Albany residents gathered in Washington Park to throw a party for a sinkhole on Madison Avenue before its repair.
The party brought community members together, friends and strangers alike, as they celebrated the collapsed segment of the road while it was still closed for construction. The group shared a full table of refreshments and an order of fresh pizza, party hats, and a playlist of themed songs such as "God Bless the Broken Road" and "Under Pressure."
The hole, which partygoers lovingly named Betty, will be missed for reasons cited on the Facebook page... ranging from "It was nice to cross the street without fearing for my life" to "Now where am I suppose to hide the dead bodies?"
As of noon on Saturday, June 25, Madison and New Scotland have re-opened for motor traffic. Betty may be gone, but her legacy will remain in the hearts of Albany sinkhole lovers forever.
