5 Valentine's Day Scenarios As Told By Mindy Kaling

I'm not picky, I just have standards.

With Valentine's Day only a few days away, I thought we could go over the five different scenarios that you could find yourself in on that special day. Who better to talk about dating than my favorite female comedian, Mindy Kaling?

1. Super (Super) Single

All my single ladies (and gents), now put your hands up! While there are lots of single people on Valentine’s Day, I find that there are two types: The first being the bitter crowd, and the second being the single and ready to mingle folks.

The bitter crowd has an all out vendetta against the card-making industry, and gets visibly angry when they pass the V-Day section at Target. They spend more time complaining about not having a valentine, and probably end up spending more of their own money on chocolates (and wine) than that special someone.

The single and ready to mingle folks are content with being super single. While in the back of their minds they think it would be nice to have a valentine (really who doesn’t secretly want one)? they aren’t going to lock themselves in the house all day in their sweatpants in order to avoid happy couples. Keep doing you, singles!

2. Just Broke Up With Someone

This is possibly the worst scenario to be on Valentine's Day. Chances are if you were just broken up with (or initiated the break up), seeing aisles of "I love you" chocolates, flowers, and other Valentine's gifts probably makes you want to cry and throw up simultaneously. Seeing a bunch of happy couples is like throwing salt on the open wound of your relationship, and you are probably going to spend the day in your leggings watching Nicholas Sparks movies (and there is nothing wrong with that!) It’ll get better soon!

3. The “Talking” Stage

This is probably the most confusing stage to be in this Valentine’s Day. In today’s day and age where most people are commitment-phobic and apps like Tinder are taking over the “dating” scene, it is very hard to tell when someone is actually into you. Are they “talking” to just you? Or are they also “talking” to three other people? Since you haven’t DTR’d (defined the relationship) how do you know if you’re more into the other person than they are into you? So if you throw Valentine’s Day into an already confusing scenario, do you celebrate? Is it too early to give gifts? Would it be weird to go out for dinner among long-term couples?

4. A New Relationship

Ahh the honeymoon phase. So you’ve finally made it out of the “talking” phase with that special someone, and chances are you’re both really into each other. That’s great! You’re probably in for a nice Valentine’s Day full of chocolate, flowers and a few Nicholas Sparks scale acts of affection. Take the time to enjoy this.

5. The Long-Term Boyfriend/Girlfriend Phase

Okay, good for you, you’ve managed to be with someone for longer than the honeymoon phase, and you are probably really comfortable together. Like kiss each other with morning breath kind of comfortable. Whether you’ve been together for one year or five, enjoy spending Valentine’s Day together!

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
