Rece Davis.

Unless you live under a rock…or you just hate sports, odds are you know who I am talking about. The famous sports news anchor on ESPN, Davis has appeared on Sports Center and the College GameDay road show.

But before the fame and success, Davis was just like the rest of us.

Davis grew up in Muscle Shoals, Alabama and later he attended the University of Alabama. He graduated with two different Bachelor degrees; one in Broadcast News, and the other in Public Affairs.

As a student at Alabama, Davis worked for WCTF-TV as a general assignment reporter. He later went on to work for various News Stations in Columbus, Georgia and Flint, Michigan. He started working for ESPN in 1995.

Now he is best known for his reporting on SportsCenter, college football and college basketball for ESPN. Davis is the regular season host of College Football Live, and is also the host of the College GameDay football and basketball road show.

One of the many perks of working for College GameDay, is being able to travel all over the country. Davis usually does a good job of interacting with fans of the show and football.

Recently, while GameDay was covering the Ole Miss v. Alabama game, on Sept. 17, Davis took some time to talk to students at the University of Alabama. He visited the College of Communication and Information Sciences, where he started his journey years ago.

Davis even posted this photo on twitter.

He discussed in detail his life and career with ESPN. I was lucky enough to be in attendance. He talked about the importance of perseverance when it comes to going after your aspirations.

He hopes that no matter where we end up, or the career that we may have, as long as we pursue it to the best of our ability that is all we can hope for.

“The number one thing,” Davis said, “is to be satisfied with the pursuit.”

From all of us here at Alabama: Thank you for your contribution to the University of Alabama, and for showing us that anyone can make it to the top, as long as they set their mind to it.

College is filled with many things, and we're so often lectured to make the right decisions as we head out on our own into the college life. But sometimes it's necessary to indulge in some guilty pleasures as well as just doing things because you can. And honestly, a lot of the time it's inevitable.
