A conversation (part two).

Here’s what happened next:

Inside a particular plane, a body occupied every single seat. “Body” sounds like they were deceased and considering the look on the majority of their faces, they might as well have been dead. Every “body” appeared annoyed, disgruntled, or miserable. A special few seemed to possess a combination of all three. The children on the plane however, had a strikingly different expression from their older counterparts. Each child seemed ecstatic and was in awe of the plane and its wings. One particular child was fidgeting with his seatbelt, trying to make it as tight as he could stand it. Not out of fear, but rather in compliance with the dimly illuminated sign above his head. His mother seemed annoyed with his constant handling of his seatbelt. She leaned over and said, “stop toying with your seat belt Colin you’re fine." Colin stopped handling his seat belt and his demeanor of awe quickly morphed into one of quiet sadness. His mother sighed involuntarily and rubbed her temples.

The captain’s voice came over the loud speaker, “Ladies and gentlemen our scheduled 5:45 takeoff looks like it’s going to be delayed by about 15 minutes. Air traffic control is giving us the red light for a safety concern, we apologize for the delay." After the intercom system turned off, a cacophony of moans and groans filled the recently pressurized cabin. The majority of the passengers were very upset that their arrival time had been delayed by 15 minutes. On account of their safety of all reasons.

Is this boring? Probably, but that’s just writing in general. It’s actually pretty fascinating because now you have a mental image of the plane or more importantly, the people inside the plane.

The people are the most important part of this story. There are different kinds of people inside this plane. You have your standard plane people. You know like dead-eyed jabronis in pinstripe suits. Also, there’s an amalgamation of everyone’s mother with a wide-eyed child. I think the mother and son are supposed to be symbolic. You’re supposed to hear about them and think that they represent something larger or grander.

There are some other important people on this plane too. In this plane? In or on? On. Either way there will be more conversations.

As college students, we are all familiar with the horror show that is course registration week. Whether you are an incoming freshman or selecting classes for your last semester, I am certain that you can relate to how traumatic this can be.

1. When course schedules are released and you have a conflict between two required classes.

Bonus points if it is more than two.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

April Ludgate

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
